Danks Street Depot

The back streets of Waterloo may be a virtual desert of dining options but that makes Danks Street Depot the oasis. Surrounded by homeware outlets and art galleries, it is a beacon of refreshing breakfast and lunch options. You can choose an open bay window seat or browse the weekend paper on the long bench table in the centre of the room. The kitchen is open so you can watch the staff busily preparing dishes of fresh produce, some of which - such as the WA sardines - can be bought deli-style and taken home. The street is quiet and the hiss of the coffee machine will be the only interruption to your midday reverie.

Truffled goodness
I'm a sucker for truffles...

A great start to Spring. Danks Street Depot sits on a quiet street in Waterloo. The tables in a neat row along the rectangular shaped interior so most of the tables face the large window onlooking the street.

I couldn't help but notice that the barista looks very much like the guy who made my favourite chai latte back when Coffee, Tea of Me was still opened...

I ordered the Creamed Eggs with Roasted Mushroom and Truffle Oil (it was hard to NOT order this from the description). The eggs were creamy, soft, and had a generous splash of truffle oil. My friend ordered the Slow Cooked Broccoli and Eggs. This was a very unique dish. The chilli flavor was subtle, but was an interesting addition to this breakfast dish. Strongly recommend for those lovers of goat cheese or those just looking for a breakfast to 'wake you up'.

Will definately go back.

Nice but Uninspiring
We went for a late and light Sunday lunch. The menu was great for a lunch feed.
Our choices: The pickled beetroot salad was as its name described although there was just so much large cut beetroot and very little else. The steak sandwich was okay although mine was served with a very fatty cut.The chicken sandwich was simple and very tasty, perfect for the afternoon.
Dont get me wrong, I love the set-up and look and feel of Dank St but it was just the little things that let it down. Examples include, ordering a Lucky beer as per the large advertising although it is no longer served there. Also having to request cracked pepper rather than it being served with the meal.
For the prices you pay, there is a little higher expectation in the delivery stakes.
Will I go back? - perhaps..perhaps not

Breakfast on the run
We first met our table attendant as he sprinted past us on the way to work ... late. Once seated, our helper gave us the full story ... his phone had gone dead, and he put his sim in an old phone which was unfortunately set to daylight saving time... hence his alarm was late, and he was late for work. What? Has he offered this excuse to the boss yet? Because he might like to think about that ... daylight saving puts you clock ahead an hour. Oh. Anyway, Dank st Depot provided a fantastic breakfast of perfect poached eggs, outreagously gorgeous omelette and melt in the mouth mushrooms .. not to mention good coffee and an entertaining conversation with the staff. Recommended.
