Da Noi

Da Noi operates on a set menu every night, with dishes changing according to what produce is available - or even what came off owner Pietro Porcu's farm that day. But despite the eclectic nature of the menu (or lack thereof), Da Noi is always a wonderful dining experience. This is Porcu's native Sardinian food and many of the recipes have been handed down for generations. You might be offered such dishes as blue swimmer crab with zucchini, garlic and mussels; or lamb in lemon sauce - but don't bet on it.

Outraged
I've waited too long to tell the world about our dreadful experience at Da Noi. What disappoints me most is that this talented chef is tainted by the dreadful service and extremely rude and arrogant staff.

One waiter took it upon himself to lecture my husband about what beer he thought he should be drinking, and then wanted to get into a debate about why he chose not to finish one plate from the degustation course. What ever happened to was everything ok with your meal or can I get you something else ?

No tip and no return. I hope the owner is listening!

Gastronomical Treat
WOW, had read about the menu here and had wanted to try it for ages. Got the chance last night. All the good stuff first - food was such a treat. We opted for the chef's degustation menu, not disappointed. It was tailored for us as I can't eat seafood (They will also cater for either dietary requirements) wonderful, flavoursome appertisers without the food getting too complicated. The mains were exceptional, a pasta then stuffed quail & braised lamb. Wait staff very friendly and helpful. Couldn't fit in dessert (too full and out of time)The Bad - upstairs was a little stuffy and stairs tricky. Wine list is not for the novice. Wines by the glass are a little $$$$. Allow plenty of time for the degustation menu. Take someone that really appreciates good food.

Great ambience, the rest really disappointing
I was expecting great things of Da Noi, it being a chef's hat restaurant. I was exceptionally disappointed.

Firstly, the waitress who served us was the most rude, abrupt and disinterested waitress I have ever been attended by. She was clearly sick of explaining how their menu works, and had summed us up as "newbies".

I was also very disappointed in the food. At $36, the beef was really an "osso buco" and was exceptionally over-priced. In addition, the vegie ravioli was too small a serve.

There are too many good choices on Toorak Rd for lack of value and poor service.

Very disappointing
We had been looking forward to visiting this restaurant for a real Sardinian treat as it has such great reviews, but found the whole experience very disappointing. Having spent time in Sardinia and Italy, the chef's menu sounded perfect, but the food was very average, and overpriced at four very small courses for $85 per person.
The service was fairly abrupt and bordering on rude and at the end of the evening we escorted ourselves to the door, without so much as a goodbye or concern from front of house whether we had enjoyed the evening.

Rustic and romantic
A romantic venue on any night, on the evening of Earth Hour atmosphere was further enhanced with dinner only available by candlelight, and heating by wood fire. The food here is excellent rustic Italian and if you allow yourself the pleasure of suprise you can dine on what the chef believes you will enjoy. Excellent antipasto to start, followed by gnocchi in Napoli sauce demonstrating that simple food done perfectly is always the best. For main a sensational braised lamb that melted in the mouth, coated in a lemony eggy sauce that is apparently the chef's secret recipe. Dessert a delicious platter of Italian treats. Service here is attentive and thoughtful. If you like this place you should try the chef's country retreat; the Tearooms in Yaark, just outside of Yea.

A complete experience
This is a great restaurant for those that enjoy great simple food served well.

The wine list in particular deserves attention; there is great advice regarding the wine list.

There is no pretense, the food is not overly exciting but it is always full of flavour and it just works...

I was taken to this restaurant as a guest and it really was an outstanding
dining experience.

I look forward to returning to experience more extraordinary gastronomy!

Next time I will be sure to have a lot more time so as to make the most of the whole experience. Definitely not a place to rush as there are 'endless' tastes to sample.
