James Mussillon has expanded his award-wining crop of restaurants in Canberra with Courgette, sibling to Aubergine. Combining new-age interior design with a modern atmosphere, this part of the family is certainly marketed toward the corporate crowd of the city. The menu incorporates exceptional Australian produce, especially seafood, with the use of complex sauces betraying the chef's European training. The mains can be quite heavy - a duo of grain-fed beef fillet and wagyu beef cheek are served with horseradish mash, broad beans and a red wine jus - but the desserts deserve some attention, so be sure to save room.

A great night out
My partner and I dined here for our anniversary. They took our coats when we arrived, and the waitress was lovely and attentive. We both had fish for mains and they were delicious, and the reisling was divine. The atmosphere was romantic and we both really enjoyed our night. Would definitely dine here again.

Memorable Dinner
My partner and i dined here as an early Valentines Day dinner and it was oiutstanding. We were the first to arrive and one of the last tables to leave. We were served by a gentleman who was not only attentive, but knew the menu inside out, he helped us to select a bottle of wine to match our entrees, and the selection was so good, we told him to pick us a second bottle for our mains! All in all it was a wonderful experience and i can not wait to dine their again!

Expensive but generally worth it
The food here is incredible, the meals I've had here certainly rank among the top 10 meals I've ever had
The service is so, so, on the two occasions I've been here it goes from being excellent to passable.
Watch out for the sparkling water trick.....
Enjoy the food though, it's well worth the money

Lovely Courgette
We had dined in this Restaurant once before in 2006 and were seated in the Board Room and did not have a great time so never got around to going back. We went back in winter this year for the first time since then and have to say the experience this time around was a complete and absolute improvement. We have visited a few times since then and have had consistently great experiences.
We again sat in the board room and the staff looking after us for the evening were absolutely without fault. Attentive without being intrusive, keen, knowledgeable and on the ball. Very professional.
The food was absolutely delicious and without fault.
The wine list is extensive and has some great things on it. Why anyone would choose to BYO in such a place astounds me especially when you consider what is on offer and the corkage you are going to pay anyway.
Well worth a visit for a romanitc dinner (ask to sit out in the Board Room) business lunch or celebration.

glorious time at Courgette
I really enjoyed the elegence here. We were treated like royalty but not to say that it was personal & good humoured at the same time. The pork I had was done to suckling perfection. This is a must for any lady wanting to treat themselves - even take your husbands!

elegant and sumptuous
This place is so very worthy of its place as one of Canberra's top 3 restaurants. Every aspect of my experience suggests that thought, care, dedication and quality have been ensured.

Second time - even better
For my wife's birthday, we returned to Courgette. We knew it had a great reputation and for my money, would have to be one of Canberra's top three restaurants. Our evening reinforced this opinion. The gentleman who served us for the evning was brilliant and allowed us to be spoilt in this romantic and subtle setting. We went for the tasting menu and were delighted with a range of superb dishes which showed off the skill of the kitchen and the quality of the ingredients. My only concern was that my stomach wasn't large enough - I had to admit defeat with the cheese plate and petit fors; a real pity as they tasted so good! I'll recomend this place to anyone who wants to enjoy some of life's finer things.

Very good overall
We had the degustation menu with matched wines - which was quite good. The food was very tasty and the wine matches were very good, although not exceptional. The food was good, but... it just didn't quite do it for me. There were one or two courses in the degustation that were really good, but overall it felt like it was trying to be a top class diner but not quite making it.
The service was very good, for example our waiter brought us a complimentary glass of wine each because he thought our dinner would be delayed because the kitchen was so busy.

Glad i had good company
The food was quite enjoyable however the beef had quite a funny taste. The service was profesional however waiting staff lacked personality and seemed disinterested. Enjoyed the company I dined with which made up for poor service.

Very disappointing
It took 35 minutes to get our wine opened and poured. It took an hour to get entree and another hour after that to get mains. We were not offered dessert. The food was great but not great enough to forget about the service.

Salt intake for a month!
Extremely disappointing! The main of venison was excessively salty - not great if you are watching your sodium levels. The service was slow and lacked personality: we had to request water for our table twice and waited for an hour for the mains to arrive.

Good food spoiled by terrible service
Does no one actually train wait staff these days? The evening started off well enough, with prompt order for drinks and an "amuse bouche", meals came but that's about it. The waitress half filled the large wine glasses (should have been much less), upended the bottle into one glass and shook it at the end to get every last drop (and sediment), did not just top up gradually the glasses - added to them. It just got worse. Something seemed to have happened and all the wait staff seemed "out of sorts" as the evening went on - at one stage all tables were sitting waiting with nothing happening! There was no senior maitre d' to oversee the room and as a result, things were quite sloppy. It is just not acceptable to reset tables (and walk around with an iron in your hand as several staff did during the evening) while your customers are waiting (In fact, the tables should not have been reset for the next day while customers were there - it made it look like they were trying to get rid of us all). The restaurant charges a premium - its food is good but it is let down by poor service and, it seems, inexperienced staff. Such a pity for a talented chef.

Wine theft
I was interested to read of someone else's experience of having wine disappear at Courgette. We took a bottle of Giaconda chardonnay and a Pegasus pinot noir and saw both decanters leave the table with wine left in them, only to be told upon asking for more that they were finished. Outrageous, and such a shame for a restaurant where the food was very good by Canberra standards.

courgette in canberra
Whilst in Canberra recently for a business meeting I was fortunate enough to dine at Courgette. Not only was the food superb but it was the waiter's attention to deal and friendly manner that made it a memorable dining experience for all.

Thanks for a great evening!
My colleagues and I, on behalf of IBM, would like to say 'thank you' to you, Michael, Georgina and the rest of the staff at Courgette for a successful evening last night. The service that Courgette's staff provided last night was first class. We couldn't have chosen a better venue. The whole team were very well organised and their 'can do' attitude made for an enjoyable and relaxing evening.
Our clients loved the interaction with one another, the menu was superb and the service exceptional. Please pass on our many thanks to Michael and the team for a terrific evening.

Stolen wine
Great food, great place and have always loved coming here. However on Saturday our waiter stole two half bottles of wine. Our glasses were poured with the decanter half full. It was removed and when we asked after it were told that no wine was remaining. So of the $150 spent on wine, the staff drank half. Thanks for nothing!

Terrible service
How terrible service can detract from very nice food and atmosphere.
The waiter performed the following;
1. Greeting us with "can I help you guys" as if we were lost 2. Failed to remove bread plates once used 3. Failed to remove entree knife and fork when we only ordered a main 4. The glass of red was obviously from a bottle which had not been decanted... more sediment then wine! 5. Failed to even tell us the specials 6. Did not even ask how the dinner was when collecting plates 7. Did not ask if we wanted dessert menus... just dumped them in front of us 8. Did not offer for another round of drinks 9. Did not offer for any more water to be brought to the table 10. When we asked for the bill he forgot to get it and it turned up about 30 minutes later!
So overall a nice night was lost! You do not pay good money for poor service such as this.
