Ah, the humble corner store. Selling everything from bags of stale mixed lollies to even staler Chiko Rolls, they are the foundation on which neighbourhoods are built and childhood memories are based. But the Corner Store Cafe is slightly different from the corner delis you may recall from childhood - in fact, the humble name seems kind of ironic considering the up-market emporium that awaits inside. The menu is full of breakfast goods like a bacon and egg burger with gruyere, rocket, tomato and beetroot relish; and lunch items like a shredded chicken salad with mango, Asian herbs and nahm jim, and prawn sandwich on soft white bread and with avocado, preserved lemon mayo, roasted red onion and rocket.
There are groceries for sale too, but they're more likely to be of the gourmet, locally-produced, gluten-free and organic variety than the pre-wrapped-Villi's-and-sitting-in-a-filthy-pie-warmer variety. Fresh flowers for sale and a gorgeous weatherboard cottage look complete the picture to make you wish this was your local corner store.
