The wood fire crackling amid the hubbub of happy conversation is at the very centre of Copperwood. The menu pulls in an enviable mixture of classic Italian dishes with imaginative variants. Starters like the fungi al forno - fresh mushroom caps filled with chicken, crumbed and baked, then served with a herb sauce - stoke the notion that there are still surprises to be found in affordable Italian cuisine. The risotto fantasia underlines that premise - arborio rice admixed with bacon, mushrooms, cream and mustard. If protocol and biology allow, the list of main meals also contains hidden gems. The chicken valdostana is a simple grilled chicken breast with mushrooms and sundried tomato with a champagne-flavoured cream sauce.

Copperwood cops out on food
Very disappointing experience my veal copperpot was not only still raw in the middle but luke warm, my partners peppered lamb was tasty but also only luke warm, and sorry copperwood but we only leave tips when its deserved and this was far from it.

Copperwood, not up to the standard.
Much like the first reviewer, i must state the honest truth. I eat out at alot of restaurants in Melbourne, and Copperwood did not make the grade on the most important aspect of any restaurant - the food! The place does have a nice ambience, but with subpar food, ambience means little. I try to be as positive as I can in reviews, but the lasagne was the saltiest I had ever had, and as my girlfriend accurately assessed, tasted a bit like vegemite! The risotto was a chicken with tomato sauce. Again it was salty, dry and hard. We asked for raspberry lemonade, and got orange. And the garlic bread was so soggy it might have been soaked in oil. To give you an idea, not one of the items we ordered could be finished.
