Not what we were expecting
A very ordinary lunch today at the Coonanbarra Cafe. Having grabbed plenty of takeaway coffees there over the years, I finally took the family there for lunch today.
The service was very lacking - to the point that the specials of the day were only mentioned to us when we placed our orders (after a cold 20 minute wait for waiter service...)
The inside of the cafe was cold (front door wide open) and crowded. Not in a warm, friendly way, but a rushed, confusing manner. The entree of potato wedges took half an hour to arrive - without doubt the worst wedges we'd ever eaten. Cold, limp and greasy. We picked at these halfheartedly, until the half eaten bowl was eventually removed without a comment from the waitress.
Another half hour wait, and eventually the mains arrived. Every single person at the table gave the same vote for the food - awful. Mine was a cold, tasteless and unimaginative roasted vegetable stack. For $25, I wondered why the owner of this place felt justified in charging such a large amount for a few mouthfuls of sliced bland, greasy vegetables?
The staff all seemed stressed, busy and inattentive. The lack of warmth, feeling and homeliness in what is portrayed as a cosy little cafe will keep us away in Wahroonga's bleak, winter months.
The only redeeming feature of the Coonanbarra Cafe is its proximity to beautiful Wahroonga Park. In hindsight, a home prepared picnic lunch would have been more enjoyable and edible and eaten in more comfortable surrounds.

Great atmosphere
Nice place if you can get in as it's a local favourite. The food is fine, however the service needs a little attention.
