Following a multi-million dollar renovation, The Coogee Bay Hotel has shed its backpacker hangout status and reinvented itself as a beachside dining and entertainment venue. Along with the seven bars on offer, there is a revamped brasserie and beer garden for enjoying the summer months. The menu has gone from pub grub to a wealth of lighter healthier options including the warm salad of octopus and tofu with a cucumber and chili peanut dressing; and the crisp-fried salt and pepper salmon tail with ginger, blackbeans and shallots.

Unfussy pub grub
Not too busy for a Friday night dinner so our dishes came out pretty fast. Great selection of condiments! One of the most varied I've seen so far. The salt & pepper squid were pretty awful. I don't recommend them. For mains we got a porterhouse steak and a chicken parmigiana. Portions were very filling and served hot. The chips were awesome! The steak was cooked just right and was juicy. Too bad the mushroom sauce didn't taste like much. The chicken parmigiana was juicy & tender, too bad the tomato sauce on top tasted like something out of a jar. A table next to us had a burger and it looked much better than my parmigiana. Oh well, next time! Service people were all nice & smiling.
