Como Hotel

The Como is the quirky, young-at-heart cousin of Perth icons such as The Queens, The Vic and The Brass Monkey. Its purple, art deco exterior has made it something of a landmark on the Canning Highway, and the retro theme continues inside, with '60s psychedelic wall coverings, lime green felt booths, Vespas and an eclectic mix of kitsch paraphernalia. The award-winning cafe can be found at the rear of the hotel, offering an array of nosh and nibbles that's as fresh and funky as the decor. Recover from the night before with 'the big fry up' on Saturday and Sunday mornings or meet for coffee in the shady courtyard. The booths are quite popular, so it's important to book.

Disappointed
Dined at the Como on a recent Sunday evening. Great location with a really nice feel to it. Pity about the food. I had the worst seafood risotto I've ever had. It had way too much cream in it and an overpowering fennel/aniseed flavour (in risotto? Go figure). Hardly any seafood to speak of, about 3 prawns, 3 mussels and a couple of thin pieces of unidentifiable fish. Couldn't even get a third of the way through it was so cloying. My dining partners had steaks, which they said were adequate, served with mixed veges, a green chicken curry which was average and a serve of fries (hard to stuff that one up). Desserts of sticky date pudding were well received.
