Colonial Hotel

Specialising in good old-fashioned pub grub, this Melbourne local keeps things simple with large grilled steaks, a warm brick interior and freshly made bread and dips. The prize feature on the menu is a mean 500 gram T-bone steak, but if that's biting off more than you can chew, there's a 350 gram aged porterhouse or rib-eye instead. There's a modest selection of salads, a host of daily specials, pastas and risotti and even five varieties of finger-food packages.

Unsatisfactory Food & Service
The Colonial Hotel is a bar/restaurant that does not conform to the "customer is always right" motto.
Went to this restaurant for a friends birthday and was told that if you weren't ordering a meal, you had to leave the premises. Were then told that if you were sharing a meal with someone, the whole meal had to be consumed in order for us to serve you more drinks.
I had the calamari. It was advertised as fresh. When I explained to the waitress that I was unable to eat it, she went and spoke to the chef and another waitress came and told me that he ate a piece of the calamari and it tasted fine - if there was a problem with the taste of it, it was their suppliers fault and not theirs. I did not receive an offer of an alternative meal, and I asked if I could perhaps have a bowl of chips instead to nibble on, I was asked to pay the fee. Other friends ate the greek lamb salad, which again was a garden salad with 4 small pieces of lamb that tasted as though they had been sprinkled with McCormacks herbs.
Overall, the service and the food was absolutely terrible and I would not recommend this place to anyone.
