Perched atop the Cockle Bay Complex, Coast restaurant, with its sleek interior, is a perfect dining option for those wanting a modern spin on Italian. Utilising some seriously fresh produce, particularly in the seafood department, The culinary team here creates stunningly simple meals that let the flavours of the minimal ingredients do the talking.
For entrees, dishes such as the Kingfish crudo are prepared thoughtfully with plump briny capers and only a slight hint of white balsamic present, allowing the fish's natural flavour to truly shine. Another stand out is a concoction of calamari and eggplant with diced tomato and a squid ink dressing - sure to please those who love a little crunch.
Mains are equally as impressive with a hallmark Taleggio and black pepper risotto: whilst not adhering to a seafood doctrine, the rich interplay of flavours certainly makes up for the lack of an ocean-dwelling ingredient. The quintessential paring of duck breast with cherries and saba (a grape must reduction) is another rich offering sure to please.
The dessert menu brings more Italian delights with a peach panna cotta served with a rose granita, honey and amaretti delivering an ethereal ending to a rather decadent, but delightful culinary journey.

Gourmet Travller 2009 Australian Restaurant Guide - "The name is a tad misleading. Coast is not on the coast but it is waterfront, one of dozens of eateries dotted around Darling Harbour and one of the best, too."
Gourmet Traveller Feature Review - "With accomplished food from chef Jonathan Barthelmess and views to spare, it’s clear: Coast may be the finest modern Italian dining experience in the city."

Good, bad and the ugly.
Food was fantastic and the view stunning so you would assume that these two factors would certainly contribute to an enjoyable night. However, the condescending nature of the wait staff definitely ruined the evening. With little more personality than a rock our waiter did his best to achieve the absolute minimum of service standards. Further it seems the only service we were quick to receive was when we were asked by 4 waiters in a matter of no more than 5 mins if we would like to purchase a bottle of wine... at $70 approx per bottle for the cheapest on the menu it is clear their upselling techniques need to be somewhat toned down. Will not be returning and I am sure the couple on the table next to us that evening would be saying similar things...

Superb dining at Cockle Bay
A wonderful restaurant for any occasions. Great, lively atmosphere and cheerful mood is enhanced by the relatively open kitchen, though it's not too intrusive. The food is superb, well presented, delicious and courses are perfectly spaced (I recommend the spinach and ricotta gnocchi with burnt butter sauce). The service is near perfect. The view is lovely over Darling Harbour and the new modern decor is well suited. A great all-round experience. 8.5/10
