Chocolateria San Churro, Fitzroy

Named for the Spanish father of chocolate - an enthusiastic monk with an addiction to the dark stuff and a desire to share it - this cafe is devoted to 'brown gold' in all its decadent forms. San Churro serves chocolate and chocolate alone, but there is no shortage of choice. The raw product is imported from Spain and turned into truffles, ice cream, thick steaming hot chocolate and more. In keeping with the Spanish theme, try the doughnut-like churros, served with liquid dips.

Extra terrible treatment if sitting outside
The San Churro at QV, generally gives terrible service. For many visits now, we have been patient because it has not been open long and we assume the servers are still learning their way. Plus it is the only one in the cbd, so one has little choice. Tonight was especially cold, so my party and I went for some hot chocolate after dinner. Seating inside is very limited, so most of the time you have no choice but to sit outside. We happen to sit right next to the window that overlooks the churros being made and also the coffee machine. We all ordered hot chocolate and churros. When the server arrived, she brought us our hot chocolates in take away cups, and said "I'm so sorry but we've run out of mugs." Which was fine with us if it were really true. On top of the coffee machine were over two dozen mugs! I stopped counting after 25! We were all very disappointed, as we come to this San Churro at QV at least once a week.

How divine!
It is so satisfying to go to cafe (let alone a chocolate cafe... yummmmmm) on a public holiday eve - and have to wait only a minimal amount of time, be acknwledged by nearly every staff member in the place, (I almost felt VIP), and then to top it off, the foood... where do I start? Truffles, churros, cakes, milkshakes, hot chocolates. Choices choices, just overwhelming decadent chocolate heaven. If you haven't been, then you are so missing out! But don't worry about it; coz there's more for me!

Dissapointed chocaholic
Have been to San Churro before, and enjoyed the experience, however on this occasion the staff were disorganised, the churros were overcooked, the hot chocolate was barely warm, and our orders were confused. Add to that, our dine-in order was served in takeaway packaging that kept falling over.

Chocoholic heaven
You might have to wait a bit to grab one of the few little tables in this tiny chocolate-themed chain cafe, but once your dessert arrives it's well and truly forgotton. In front of you is a large plate of churros - traditional Spanish doughnuts - with either dark, white or milk chocolate dipping sauce that literally drips divineness. Alternatively you chose one of the mini cakes - a dark chocolate mousse cake perhaps - rich, sweet and smooth and large enough to satisfy without bursting from the seams. But one can't resist the brownie ice cream sundae - a rich, moist chocolate brownie with white and milk chocolate ice cream, topped with an overload of milk chocolate hardened on top so that you get that crackly sensation as you bite into this overload of sweet indulgence - you're not one to think of your waist line when you order this!
Not the sort of place you go to for a quiet, relaxing after-dinner rest (it's way too crowded and busy at nights) but more so for those wanting a quick, delectable and highly satisfying sugar hit, or an afternoon tea treat, you will be definitely coming back for more. And yes they do do takeaway!
