A popular haunt for the Chinese community in Adelaide, the Chinatown Cafe is a great example of effective word-of-mouth promotion. Once discovered, each diner does their best to keep this little secret to themselves. Unfortunately for the regulars, word has gotten out. Although you won't read anything about this restaurant, they certainly don't need to advertise, so you'd better get there early for a table as the queues around lunchtime stretch out the door. The reason is simple - the food is authentic Chinese and Malaysian cuisine that's cheap, filling and tasty. The dining room won't win any awards for design or beauty, but the laminated tables have ample space for food, chopsticks, and even your elbows. Just make sure you give yourself enough time to wait for a table.

My favourite restaurant ever!!
I am addicted to this place! They make the most amazing dish called Hainanese Chicken - get it with chicken breast and asian greens to eat in or takeaway (and they take phone orders too). The prices are fantastic at about $8.50 for a main and you definitely get plenty to eat! At lunch time it is really busy and often the queue is long but as previous review stated the turnaround is very quick so dont worry. And the food is definitely worth the wait. We often get lunch to eat in and then dinner (and sometimes another lunch) to takeaway. Takeaway the food reheats really well and is in generous proportions. They are always polite and food is brought out quickly. Do yourself a MASSIVE favour and try them today!!

ssssh....dont tell anyone.
I eat here a couple of times a week for lunch and dinner. They have fantastic cheap food in a basic dining area that's always jam packed. But don't worry about the line out the door - turnover is extremely fast and by the time you order (5-10 minutes) you will be shown to a table and your food will practically follow you there. Their Kway Theow is sensational, and don't forget to get a pot of tea for an extra $2!
