After the exit of former XO chef Tane Malcolm, China Doll still offers a magical combination of modern Asian food (courtesy of newly promoted chef Frank Shek), exquisite harbour views and a bar serving an eclectic range of cocktails. Located along Woolloomooloo's see-and-be-seen Finger Wharf, it has all the right ingredients for a gorgeous night out.

Food has suffered since departure of previous chef
I was previously a huge fan of China Doll, but we had a disappointing dinner. Eight of us ordered the $75 a head banquet (three courses). The starters were great and generous, but the main courses really disappointed. Very heavy handed spicing; it used to be subtle and fantastic, a real 'wow'. Service went off the boil too: our side dishes arrived after everyone had finished all mains (which took a very long time to be served). But I haven't given up hope and will try it again. But it's the food is far less good than it used to be (which was outstanding), although it's still fine.

Really great asian food..
This place has the essence of a brilliant fusion restaurant - great food without being too fusion - and a really nice atmosphere. The interior and atmosphere is suitable for a romantic dinner or a group outing. The pork belly and dessert tasting plate is an absolute must-try!
