The 2010 postcode has long been the epicentre of Sydney's contemporary dining culture: small bars, mod-Oz cuisine, you name it. But Indian food? To find truly authentic Indian you would have to travel to Parramatta or Harris Park. Thankfully, with the opening of this new Crown Street eatery that may be about to change.
Before Chilli Alchemy came along Surry Hills' Indian options were limited to a few late night takeout joints with bain-maries filled with tubs of nondescript curry. Let's be perfectly clear: Chilli Alchemy is not this. If a neon butter chicken is what you're craving then you'd best keep walking.
What you will find here is a menu of contemporary, home-style Indian and Pakistani meals. Seasonality and quality ingredients are given their due credence here, keeping the menu in a constant state of flux.
It may be a shock to the system for those uninitiated in the ways of real subcontinental cuisine but for true disciples Chilli Alchemy is a godsend.
