Its location at the Centro Victoria Park Shopping Centre may not be particularly authentic, but wander past and you can taste the vibrant flavours of traditional southern Chinese cuisine on the air. Having learned from his father, who trained in Hong Kong, chef Manyiu Wu consistently serves up quick, quality, freshly cooked dishes at prices difficult to beat. Wontons or prawn dumplings in noodle soups cost less than $8 while a choice of duck, pork or chicken barbecued in a traditional Asian roaster with a side of rice is just $8.20.
For the fully authentic accompaniment, order the Chi iced tea - a special blend imported from Hong Kong - and as you'll have plenty of change from a $20 note, you may also be tempted to partake in a tipple or two from the list of wines, beers and spirits. Furthermore, while Chi's big sister in the city only opens for lunch, here in Victoria Park they stay open for dinner too and offer tables in cool, comfy leather booths to boot.
