If you haven't heard about this place yet, prepare for the inevitable inundation of food blogs, reviews and tweets about Sydney's latest dumpling house and get in early to beat the incomprehensible lines that are usually reserved for the original Chat Thai, Mamak and Adriano Zumbo Patisserie after a MasterChef appearance.
One of the newer additions to the CBD's Regent Place, Chef's Gallery is a sleek affair with hardwood tables, leather banquettes and plush walls housing glass-enclosed Shanghai-style antiques. Steering well clear of the gaudy trinkets, Chef's Gallery has a sophistication and style that elevates it above your average dumpling bar and firmly into the realm of dining destination. Thankfully, the price tag doesn't follow suit and the bill at the end of the night is quite modest.
Gallery by name and gallery by nature, the whole right side of the dining room is taken up by the glassed-in kitchen, which allows diners to watched the spectacle and theatre as countless chefs bustle back and forth making the traditional la mian (pulled noodles). With this in mind, try to get a seat facing the kitchen, as the action in the kitchen is half the appeal.
