Located a stone's throw from the Capitol Theatre, the stage is set in the kitchen at this wallet-friendly Thai, where patrons can watch authentic Thai dishes sizzle and stir-fry while they wait for a table. This eatery is always abuzz with diners wanting to sample dishes from the extensive menu, which includes barbecued lamb with smoky nahm-jim jaew dipping sauce, fried chicken wings in Thai spices, and the intriguingly titled "Crying Tiger": slices of grilled marinated rump steak, served with nahm-jim jaew and side salad.

100% agree - best thai in sydney
This was just my second visit to Chat Thai, but the gap between visits was only a week. My first meal was so amazing that I was swiftly back. The Massaman was heavenly, the grills are amazing and the stir fries were supreme. Cheap, fabulous, fresh - and very worth the wait.

Simply the best Thai A MUST
This is the best Thai in Sydney. There menue is extensive. My favourite is the chicken holy basil and the crying tiger. The service is quick once seated be you can wait an hour sometimes to get a seat as it is that is how popular it is! Definetly worth the wait though. The food if traditional with genourous servings. Not this silly modern Thai cusine!

Best Thai ever
It is. really. the food is amazing and the menu is extensive. lines are long so book in advance . . . but it is worth waiting for. at lunch there are loads of desserts to sample and all three menus (lunch, dinner and supper) have authentic northern Thai options that go beyond pad thai and green curry (although they make those well too!) I have been eating at chat thai's take away near the qvb since 2002 and was over the moon when this funky venue opened. I eat there once a week!

Cannot wait to go again
On my friends suggestion, we went here on a Tuesday. There was a big queue out the front, but I had booked a table for 2. We waited 5 minutes and were seated. The atmosphere is great, noisy, bustly, but warm and with great decor. Service is fast and friendly. The food was delicious. I had baramundi and green mango salad while my friend ate the stir fried duck. Both were so yummy. It's BYO, the only sad thing was that the mango dessert wasn't available. Can't wait to go here again - but make sure you book!
