If you look after people, they'll keep coming back. This must be the motto at Charcoal, because the satisfied and loyal following just won't go anywhere else. Great wine list, service and food. Don't forget to leave room for desserts.

Delicious
Terrific food! Always walk away feeling very full and very satisfied. The decor is like being in a timewarp but this gives it a lovely charm.

My favourite little steak place
I always look forward to coming here and do so quite often, usually on special occasions. The pepper steak is really gorgeously done with gravy that is thick and glossy and tasty and they cook it just how I like it. I enjoy a garden salad with a vinagrette, chips sometimes or the big baked potato with sour cream and chives, then I have the chocolate strawberry basket dessert which is so, so, so good, then I have a hot chocolate. It's pretty indulgent and really fantastic. I find the service is attentive too.

Crap food, crap service, crap everything!!
After walking past this restaurant for years I decided to try it out with a friend as we are fussy steak eaters and we thought how hard is it to cook one, especially in a steak restaurant?
I ordered the 500gm rump (medium rare) with peppercorn sauce and chips. What I got was charcoal rump with peppercorn sauce that tasted like it came out of a jar and a small serving of soggy disgusting chips! After complaining to the waiter, the only response I got was 'I'm sorry about that'. I now realised why I kept walking past this place for so many years!!!

Best steak in Canberra
Charcoal is hands down the best steak in Canberra. I've been going there for years and I love my steak Dianne so much that I never choose anything else. Last week, for the first time I ventured out, I took the plunge, I ordered the pepper steak. I was not disappointed. Even though I always get the same main, I know the entree and dessert choices like the back of my hand and I ve got to say that you have to try the oysters Kilpatrick or deep fried camembert with redcurrant jelly for entree and for dessert you ve got to go the crepes or chocolate mousse. Prices are a little on the high side, but it s all worth it. Service could be a little better. If you're a red meat lover, you have to experience Charcoal and please don't be one of those people that goes to Charcoal and doesn't order a steak, (as they do have other meats on the menu).

Some of the best food I've had in my life and absolutely wonderful service, even though it was a full and busy night. Very enjoyable and a must for steak-lovers!

Great food, CRAP service
This would have to be one of the tastiest and best-cooked steaks I have had in years (and I've had many, domestically and overseas). I had the fillet and it was an absolute joy. It's a shame the food is compromised by poor service. It made an otherwise enjoyable night a pig of an experience - perhaps they do takeaway, and then there would be no problem.
