Chado - The Way of Tea

A peaceful escape from the hubbub of Hobart, Chado - The Way of Tea takes its name from an ancient Japanese tea ceremony centred in offering a tranquil and humble rejuvenation for the body and mind. It's all about stepping back a few paces and relaxing with one of more than 80 different kinds of teas from China, Taiwan, Japan, Sri Lanka, Africa, South America and India. An Asian and Western mix of sweet and savoury treats are available throughout the day, from paninis and handmake cookies to special rice dishes such as the Japanese rice ball, oni giri. Owned by local musician and former bassist of alternative rock band the Violent Femmes, Brian Ritchie, and his wife Varuni Kulasekara, this Tasmanian teahouse is a welcome little city retreat.
