Cha Cha Char Wine Bar & Grill

The proliferation of highly polished timber and sweeping curves give this space an exceedingly masculine, almost nautical look. The latter is appropriate enough given the waterfront location, while the former... well, it is one of Brisbane's best steak restaurants. That these people are passionate about beef is a massive understatement, to say the least. The separate steak menu is a lengthy ode to meat, including details on the weight, breeding and feeding methods of each cut, as well as tasting notes akin to those found on many wine lists. For those beef-heathens who can't see what the fuss of a high-marbled grain-fed wagyu steak is all about, the main menu branches out to other types of meat, poultry and fish. Surprisingly, for such a temple to flesh, there's also a thoughtfully crafted vegetarian menu.

great lunch out!
By far the best steak I have had in a long time. The sides perfectly compliment the steaks and the entr?es are to die for! I could not find a fault in the service or the food. and although Chars is thought of as a boys club the atmosphere was actually very welcoming and great. made for a perfect lunch out. will definitely be recommending to my friends!

Great Service and Food
I have been here a couple of times and the steak has always been great. We had the Salt and Pepper Squid for Entree which was awesome. We then had the rib eye on the bone for main and then I had the Chocolate for desert. All Were very good. Will definitely come here again.

Chachachar
On a special celebratory night for one of our cohort, we entered the restaurant on a Friday night, only to be met with an atmosphere reminiscent of a nightclub... The bar had far too many patrons (squished in like a mosh pit) and were making an awful racket.

The restaurant must be complimented on the lovely entree of mini-hamburgers and bacon-filled oysters. Unfortunately we were served with dirty plates! Moreover, there was no entree for vegetarians and one of our number was forced to eat a simple bread bun...

They stuffed up our wine order by bringing out the wrong wine. The staff apologised... but brought out another bottle of the wrong wine! We had had enough by that stage so we just drank it (note: both of the bottles were far more expensive than the wine we ordered...). One expects such when you are served by more than 5 waiters for the evening...

Now on to the main course; the 'rare' steaks had almost no red in them at all. Given the excellent cuts of meat were incredibly thick (not to mention the restaurant was not even busy that night, besides the bar...), I'm not quite sure how this much-hyped place stuffed them up.

We didn't stay for desert.

Someone train the staff....
I have been going to Char Char for about 10 years and on the whole it is generally a good experience. However, the last visit will be my last for some time...

We were sitting for over 10 minutes before someone came to the table. I finally caught the manager's eye and gave him the wine order - 2006 Rockford Basket Press. He brings the bottle out after another 10 minutes and leaves the up-open win on our table. Eventually, the waitress attends the table and asks if we would like the wine opened! I asked for it to be decantered - she had no idea how to do that and then she spilt it on one of my clients.

In addition, she also mucked up the meal order (we only ordered mains. We never received our sides...they could tell that we were not having a great time so decided to give us something on the house - nice offer I thought...I asked for Muscat and they delivered Tokay...when I pointed this out she said that they were similar. That is not what I ordered!!!

The meal was ok but the service has slipped and it is a real shame. Next time I will walk on by....

Cooked to perfection
With an extensive menu for meat lovers and vegetarians you are sure to find something gorgeous to sink your teeth into. Everything from the kitchen was flawless however the service was a bit haphazard.

Great food, poor service
I have been to Cha Cha Chars a few times for different occasions, specifically because they do have a fantastic steak. No questions there. However for a restaurant of such reputation the service is definitely disappointing.
On our first occasion I was unbelievably disgusted with the arrogance of their wine prices. Charging more for wine is one thing, charging $70 for a $25 bottle of wine and $220 for a $80 bottle was just disgusting. There is a limit of what is acceptable and that breaks it.
Secondly if they are going to charge phenomenally high prices for wine, they could use some of the funds to teach their staff that when you decanter a high sediment wine, you don't just pour it into the decanter than straight into a glass from there, you let it sit and breath so all the sediment goes to the bottom.
Second time I went they forgot to bring out a side dish. After the waiter appologised for the delay for the third time, and we had almost finished our main meals, I told them not to bother.
I was quite disappointed all round for the service or lack thereof.

Excellent steak, average service
Front-of-house staff seemed a bit unorganised and inefficient.. I found our waitress to be rude and unprofessional when I asked her to recommend a wine. I asked for a merlot, we ended up with an mediocre bottle of Montana which I was ok with at first (thinking it'd be reasonably priced) only to find out later that I was charged $58 for it. Montana merlot is worth about $15-20 - I understand restaurants markup the price but that is ridiculous.

To be honest, I had very high expectations and while the steak itself was some of the best I'd ever had and cooked to perfection, the overall dining experience was just average and disappointing.

Cha Cha Char
I took my boyfriend to Cha Cha Char for his birthday. Can I just say that the service was absolutely fantastic! Our waitress was polite and gave fantastic service, even offering to bring out dessert with 'Happy Birthday' written on the plate in chocolate for my partner! The food was served exactly when it should have, and even though it's pricey, it's worth it. My partner had the T-bone, which he said was up there with the best steak he's ever had. I had the striploin roll, and although I was a bit disappointed with it, I think it's more that it's not to my taste rather than quality. A gentleman at another table near us had red wine spilt on him at some stage throughout the night, and the restaurant staff more than made up for it, with the manager/owner serving that table himself. At the end of the night, the manager/owner was at the door, shaking everyone's hand as they left, which I thought was a nice touch. If you're after steak and fine dining, this is the place to go!

Make a booking, this place is great
I took my girlfriend to Char Char Char on Valentine's and the food was just terrific. For entree we shared the kangaroo which was medium rare and had a wonderful smokey flavor. We each ordered steak, which is one of the best in Brisbane. The restaurant overlooks the river and has just the right combination of decor to match the setting.
