Ceviche

Offering hungry patrons a selection of delightful mod-Oz-meets-pub-grub options, Ceviche adds a bit of citrus tang to a rather staid Coogee dining scene. For starters, diners are encouraged to begin with a dozen oysters which, hailing from Coffin Bay and served raw or steamed with nam jihm, are certain to please. Or, diners can nibble on a melange of scallops, sea perch and salmon in this eatery's eponymous dish.

For the main course, diners are invited to chomp on fish and chips, or try one of the many grilled steak options, such as the New York cut sirloin served with diner's choice of sauces, including that French favourite, bearnaise.

Underated?
A Wednesday summer with a lunchtime to spare so on the recommendation of my wife, we wandered around to Coogee to give Ceviche a go. They have a lunchtime menu that for $25 gives you a choice from two entrees, two mains and a glass of wine. The choice varies depending on what day of the week it is but this lunch is extremely good value. The servings were generous and the steak was perhaps one of the best I have had in a long time. The service was pleasant, attentive and efficient and the coffee, not included in the $25 but always a test of a good restaurant, was excellent. Overlooking the park and the beach at Coogee this restaurant is better than its Bronte counterparts in that the aspect is higher and you aren't being asphyxiated every 10 minutes by turning buses. And the street parking is free!
