Disappointing, disappointing, disappointing...
We tried to book initially for noon on November 29, and were told that there was a large party booked for that time and it might be better if we booked for 1 pm (this was not a problem in itself). We were a party of eight.

We were called back by the restaurant and informed that there was an event happening in Centennial Park on the day, and parking might be difficult. Again, no problem. People who lived nearby arranged to walk instead of drive. I mention this here because there was no mention in this phone call about a function at the restaurant that would interfere with our lunch.

When we arrived, the waiter offered someone to taste the wine, then poured the wine for the rest of us. He didn t fill the taster s glass, his wife had to ask the waiter to return to top the glass up.

A non-drinker in our party was drinking water from a wine glass. Waiter topped up her water with wine, this diner can not drink alcohol in any way, shape or form, there would have been serious consequences for her if she had taken a mouthful from the glass.

A diner who was drinking tap water had his glass topped up with sparkling mineral water that was ordered by the non alcohol drinker in our party. The waiter topped up some glasses with wine, and not others, leaving some diners with half a glass of wine, others with almost empty glasses. This recurred throughout the meal.

We ordered desserts, one diner orders the souffle, told that it would take 30 minutes, no problem for us. Another diner then orders souffle.

A staff member (maybe senior staff, he's not wearing green shirt as the wait staff all do) appears at our table and asks our party to hurry along as there is a function being held at the restaurant, and they need to arrange the room. He doesn't appear to be impressed when we tell him that we are, in fact, still waiting for our desserts to arrive: I thought you'd already had them he said. No, we haven't we inform him.

He told us that we should have been told that there was a function and that we'd have to leave by a certain time. Sorry mate, we weren't told, if we had been it would have been a different matter, we would have either been prepared to leave when they wanted us to, or we would have gone somewhere else. He made it sound as though it was our fault.

Our waiter reappears, we ask if we could have another bottle of wine, he says no, he doesn't think that we can, as we have to move out for the function . We tell him that, since we are still awaiting food that he had taken the order for, then it wouldn't further interrupt the arrangements for the function. We get the bottle of wine, still waiting for the desserts.

A member of our party leaves the table to inform a staff member that we are annoyed, and that she has observed other diners leaving who didn't look impressed . We are told that our final bottle of wine is on the house, and an apology is made. After dessert, we are moved to another area of the restaurant to finish our celebration.

The food was good. We paid around $100 a head for this meal. The treatment we were given was disgusting. We went to the restaurant for a special occasion, a birthday, a celebration. I ve received better service in suburban pizzerias than I did at this place. I won't be back.

Centennial Parklands Dining
I was taken to Centennial Parklands Restaurant for mmy birthday - because of the expensive menu we decided it was lunch and we would have entrees - despite the delicacy and tastiness of the morsels we would have been starving when we left if we hadn't had 2 pieces each of sourdough - the desserts were only a mouthful each - how can people afford all this in this "global downturn"? Each of us agreed "thank goodness we were not too hungry when we got there". The venue and the service was excellent.
