After moving to the CBD from its former premises in Southbank, Cecconi's has picked up an addendum to its original name, becoming Cecconi's Cantina. However, the new moniker is not meant to imply canteen-style casualness. The restaurant now sits in the former basement premises of upmarket Langton's, a demure space of neutral tones and dangling chandeliers. The kitchen continues to serve schmick Italian food (courtesy of chef Harry Lilai), but now also boasts the largest rotisserie in Australia, producing such decadent treats as suckling pig with apple salsa. To complete the upmarket experience, there is a dizzyingly long wine list of international drops.

Nice atmosphere
The decor is lovely and the service was good. The food was OK, where it faulted was execution. My truffle risotto was undercooked and my husbands duck overcooked. The desserts were also a let down. If I had to recommend a dish it would be Jamon iberico, black fig, sweet rocket, hazelnut vinaigrette & balsamic jelly - $26. Probably wouldn't go back.

Solid Mains, Fantastic Desserts, Good WIne, Rubbish Service
Main courses were solid, nothing special and nothing flash. But they got their stapls right. The kitchen turn over was great for a table of 8. However the 4 wait staff were unreliable, obnoxious, and scattered... The Desserts were fantastic. The semifreddo was amazing. Once again the kitchen was great. It took 25 minutes to get a coffee on a thursday night with 4 staff on and 14 tables over a period of 3 hours... Pleas explain?

A welcome return to Cecconi's
Having not been to Cecconi's since the move from Crown, I had high expectations that the food was going to be just as good as it used to be, and I was not let down. The move obviously hasn't affected the quality of the food being dished out from the kitchen, and it really was outstanding. Well deserving of the chef's hat. I began the night with the rabbit salad, went for the duck special, and finished off with the pear and rhubarb crumble. All the dishes were outstanding and could not be faulted. The duck special was mouth-wateringly sublime, such that I didn t want to give my partner a taste (but I did) because I didn t want to miss one mouthful. On the down side, the local wine list doesn't appear to be anywhere near as extensive as it used to be. The service also left a lot to be desired, being very slow and inattentive. It seemed to take forever to get someone s attention. At one point at the beginning of the evening, the wine was poured, and then hastily rushed off before filling everyone's glasses, and we then had to go through the chore of getting someone s attention to bring the bottle back! Other than these minor gripes, it was a terrific evening with fantastic food. Will definitely be a regular now

our large dinner
While in town with a group of colleagues, we came to Cecconi's and were treated to really great food in a great private room. The 30 of us squeezed in nicely. Each course brought us well crafted and beautifully plated food which everyone enjoyed. I haven't often had Italian fine dining - it usually sits better as a rustic family cuisine, but this was marvelous. Well deserving of their covetted 'hat'. I'll be back when I have my wife with me for sure.
