Cantering into equine territory (Terrey Hills is known for its abundance of horse stables), Cavallino Ristorante brings an abundance of Italian hospitality to the area. Part-owned by Italian food-maestro Giovanni Pilu, of Pilu at Freshwater fame, Cavallino offers a selection of deliciously authentic pizza, pasta and meat options, all designed to feed that hungry inner-horse. Diners here may choose to start on something simple such as lightly fried calamari; or head into pasta territory with delights such as crispy potato gnocchi in a rich (and oh-so warming) duck ragu. Main dishes include oven-roasted spring lamb wrapped in pancetta and served with pan juices; or the fish of the day may pique diners' curiosity.
Come dessert, the tiramisu is a dish not to be missed. But if you long for something else, a classic treat of profiteroles will certainly pack a flavourful kick with much "horsepower".
