'Tis so rare to find comfy and classy surrounds, relaxed atmosphere and world class cuisine served in a pub, yes a pub! Although the surrounds are still distinctly pub-like, the dining room has benefited from the addition of white linen and bistro chairs. The food has similarly kept the taste of former times, leaning towards hearty, meaty dishes. However these are crafted with a level of skill not previously encountered in a pub plate of bangers and mash. The specials board even boasts more delicate offerings, proving that you don't necessarily have to step outside your local to have an impressive dining experience.

Good Pub Lunch
If you after a no fuss nice pub meal in a old school Melbourne pub the Caringbush ticks all the boxs. Great Pork snags and Mashed Spuds.

Great pub grub and an open fire was a success
On a cold winter's night (!) in October, I was looking for an open fire and great meals to catch up with friends. The Carringbush was suggested and let me tell you: what a winner. Every bit of the meal was fantastic - from the bread at the start; to the prawns grilled in a whole shell with basil; to the papardelle with scallops and a tomato and lobster sauce to the delectable pavlova with rhubarb and a short black. I know it seems a lot, but I couldn't stop. We also got the open fire (several), a fantastic surrounding that made us feel as though we were at a bed and breakfast in Beechworth or Daylesford and very quaffable glasses of house red. Definitely a place to mark on your list.
