Let bygones be bygones on Lygon Street, where Peggy Wynn has launched the new Carlton Curry House. Some like it hot, some like it mild; this authentic Indian restaurant, takeaway and private catering service aims to cover all inclinations, from the classic hot curry of the vindaloo (available with beef, chicken, lamb, prawn or vegetables) to the mild nutty blends of the korma (available with lamb, beef, chicken or vegies). Select from one of nine breads, including numerous naan and wholemeal options.

The best Indian I have found in Melbourne
While I enjoy almost all forms of Indian food, there are a few places which really stand out. Carlton Curry House is one of those places. Although the service and atmosphere are very nice, I really just go for the food....and it never disappoints. After trying over 6 of their different curries, several of their starters, as well as had the pleasure of enjoying their desserts. From the butter chicken to the vindaloo, there are curries to meet all your spice needs and you will definitely want to come back for more. I also really love their aloo paratha and just wish I lived closer to the CCH so I could come by more often.

My favourite food
I love the food at this place so very much. The lunch special with Chicken Madras and Dal Makhani + a glass of McWilliam's Brut Reserve is my favourite meal of all time. Also love the Pistachio Kulfi and the Gulab Jamun for dessert.

Great Lunch!
We went there today and not for the first time, although we usually go in the evening. As always, the food was first-rate and it's a constant delight to be plied with beautifully cooked food so obviously prepared from high-quality ingredients. We shared a warm chicken wrap, which was filled not only with tandoori chicken but also very fresh baby spinach and other salad. We followed with a shared entr?e platter, which gave us a sample of three vegetarian (samosa, onion bhaja and aloo tikki) and three tandoori meats (chicken, lamb and shish kebab). This was washed down with a lovely glass of white wine. This place is a real gem and well worth visiting.

There's a difference between being just Hot and being Hot and Tasty and Carlton curry house knows the difference. However its the starter that I Love the " Tandori Mixed Grill Sizzler" It has Taste, Smell & Sound... Give it a go & see what I mean.

Indian in Lygon - just can't beat it!
We love the Carlton precinct but had virtually stopped coming because of the monotony of wall-to-wall Mediterranean restaurants. We do love Latin fare, but stumbling on Peggy's Carlton Curry House renewed our interest in Lygon Street. The Indian cuisine is excellent; the wine list short but good quality; the decor is simple and homely; the service is attentive and unassuming. This is just as we like it. It's the food that really matters here - we had traditional Indian samosas with a zingy tamarind sauce, chicken Madras and subtle lamb Bhuna, accompanied by rice, naan and pappadams, of course. The lamb was simply exceptional and the other dishes were notably good. A seriously good but cheap pinot noir made a great meal even better. This Indian fare is as good as we've had anywhere in Melbourne. And it's worth noting that we left seriously full with a lot of change from $100. That's the first time for ages! The Carlton Curry House is sure to become a favourite of ours. We'll be back soon.
