Formerly the much-loved Classics Restaurant, this pretty Walkerville Terrace eatery has thankfully retained much of its charm and aesthetic. The menu is modern Australian and includes dishes like marinated kangaroo fillet on potato rosti with roast beetroot relish and crispy-skinned Atlantic salmon on petite potato and pancetta salad with cherry tomato and coriander salsa. The vine-covered courtyard is a beautiful and cool spot for a less formal weekend breakfast or lunch, while inside, the dining room and atmosphere are intimate and refined.

On a cold winter's night, ventured to Candles at Walkerville for dinner via "Our Deal" voucher - $49 for 2 course dinner and bottle wine. Good deal. Freezing cold in restaurant, kept coat on. Man playing piano in the corner...ok, his singing less so, and the trumpeter even less so. Entrees were great, good selection. Mains were 'good wholesome foods', nothing too adventurous. Fish of the day, baked Barra, came out in a large soup bowl, still wrapped in its baking paper, bunch chips and mini salad. Very basic. Beef wellington, surf/turf and pork henry were all good. Did not give us fresh glasses when changed from white to red wine. Too cold to stay for coffee, and desserts were fairly ordinary....and uncomfortable chairs, and decor less than average. Has deteriorated from when last visited 2 yrs ago.
