This bustling Italian restaurant has a loyal local following; it's the kind of place where a mixed crowd gathers to eat hearty, slow-cooked, home-style food, and linger over a bottle of vino. The interior is small and cosy, lending a casual feel to the atmosphere, and the service is personal and friendly - Cala Luna is manned by husband and wife team Michel and Emma Rossetti.
The menu here features a number of the crowd-pleasing pasta dishes Italy is known for, and a good selection of delicacies from Rome, Piemonte, and Michel's father's home town of Arola. For entree, the calamaretti - squid lightly dusted in flour and shallow fried - is the most popular dish, and for those who aren't too concerned with counting calories, the seared scallops with creamed leek crepe and mussel butter sauce is a divine choice. For main course, the baby suckling pig with apple sauce is hard to pass by, as is the slow-roasted, juniper berry-crusted wild boar in chianti jus.
Those who save room for dessert are well rewarded, with a selection of specials to satisfy the sweet-tooth. Chocolate-lovers will find it difficult to resist the signature white chocolate semifreddo with truffle honey, but those who like a refreshing end to their meal swear by the citrus symphony - a plate piled high with a lemon tart, a citrus salad with mascarpone, a Grand Marnier souffle, and a glass of homemade limoncello.

Amazing!
On a follow-up visit, this place really delivered. Try the duck risotto and the veal main. Unbelievable!
Also, they are now open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

What a little gem
This is 3rd time that we have been to Cala Luna in the last 6 months and it's an quiant little restaurant. It has no views and the dining room is not elaborate but it has a real buzz. The food is not cheap but the quality and the flavours are right on for my taste. Had an Italian pinot grigio at $32 that was perfect for the squid. I followed up with an aged beef fillet that was one of the best steaks that I have eaten in Sydney. Service is there when you want which is what I look for when dining out. The dining room although small has an alive atmosphere.

Outstanding
The are doing a great job here, and great value - and you can BYO. Real class to the food and friendly professional service. One of Sydney's secrets. Capable of some outstanding dishes.
