Caffe Amore

The city used to be just an administrative pulse for the suburbs, but with townhouses mushrooming daily, the new locals want places to eat. For a mix of inner-city chic and cafe culture, look for the red Amore beacon above the intersection of Pirie and Pulteney Streets. The cavernous dining room leads to an upstairs bar area, used for evenings and private parties. Its white urban funk chairs and tables of brushed silver dot the aeroplane red decor, while plasma screens and daily newspapers abound. To fully appreciate the experience, try a decadent slice of white chocolate cheesecake, a fruit Danish or a soft Viennese biscuit. The sweets are sourced from excellent producers - Kez's cookies stand out. Spaghetti aglio e olio, with quality olive oil and freshly crushed garlic, is embellished with capers, chilli and parsley for a contemporary take. It's all done with a minimum of fuss and with little delay from order to table.

Bad service
Food was ok when it came out... took 50 minutes for the garlic bread we had ordered. It wasn't busy, less than half full. Mains came out about 15 minutes later but they forgot one of our orders - and then the waiter didnt apologise for his mistake.

Good experience
Made a last-minute decision to go there and the staff were fine with it even though we hadn't booked. Meal was lovely and staff was very nice! The only thing I didn't like was that they had the doors open and I was cold, but oh well, I had a great time anyway!

Good food, but a little slow
Service is typical of an Adelaide cafe (no table service, disinterested bar staff). The music is regularly too loud and scratchy, and the plasma TVs cut in and out - very annoying! The menu is quite extensive though.

I occasionally go here for coffees with clients, but I thought I'd try the food and went there for dinner last visit. The meals took ages to come out. On this occasion there were only two staff in the kitchen and two at the bar - obviously not enough for such a large cafe. However those two chefs cooked a delicious meal which made the wait worthwhile.

I recommend the food but make sure you allow plenty of time.

Thank you!
Intending only to meet a friend for coffee and a chat, we ended up staying for dinner. The friendly Italian guys ever so swiftly created our delectable ice coffees - one with cream, the other without. We were made to feel welcome from the moment we stepped in the door and their service was outstanding.

We ended up staying for dinner. Nothing was too much trouble. I didn’t feel like anchovies, so with a few extra suggestions, the steak sauce was changed from anchovies to a mushroom gravy, no fuss. Only smiles. The meals came out only a short time later. My rare steak was cooked to perfection.

Thank you Caffe Amore!

The only dampener to the experience was the Adelaide city council giving me a parking ticket! There was no signage on the street or on the ticket meter. But according to the ticket out the front of the cafe is a No Standing Zone from 4pm-6pm Monday to Friday.

Brilliant food. Less-than-desirable toilet facilities. Cranky staff.
