Ask any Marrickville local and they'll tell you how much they love the community vibe of the suburb. Cafenes, in the humming Alex Trevallion Plaza cafe enclave, easily taps into this vibe with its largely alfresco daytime-only cafe. You can get a good authentic Greek breakfast here, like a bougasta (custard filo) or the actual "Greek breakfast" of fried or scrambled eggs with bacon, tomato, mushroom, haloumi cheese and sausage on wood-fired toast. The rest of the day can be occupied by Turkish breads, panino, wraps, pizzas, salad and hot meals like lamb chops, souvlaki and garlic prawns. Sweets like baklava and kataifi are wise additions if you're popping by for a coffee or tea.
