Vagabondo Caffe Restaurant is a simple Italian cafe with a surprisingly big menu. It covers wood oven pizzas, amply filled foccacias, a tantalising veal scaloppine and a to-die-for salt and pepper squid salad. The food is fresh and flavoursome, and the service is efficient and polite. The room is bright and warm, with lots of loud colours, polished floors and street front dining.

A Touch of Italia in North Adelaide
Caffe Vagabondo, situated in O'Connel St shopping area, is like stepping into a good cafe in Italy. The murals and paintings by local artists, the table and chairs, the hospitality, creates a great ambience. We chose for lunch from an excellent menu, a lamb salad, salt and pepper squid, finishing off with a genuine Italian coffee. The food was beautifully prepared and presented, and was healthy and delicious. (also available gluten free meals and deserts) This cafe/restaurant was the state winner; I love food award 2009. All together, an agreeable culinary experience. We hear their breakfast is legendary.

Coeliac friendly
Dining out can be a risky experience for coeliacs, thanks to still widespread ignorance about the disease. However, this place is a professional member of the SA Coeliac Society, which is always reassuring. All three staff we dealt with were knowledgable about gluten-free dishes, which were clearly marked on the menu and appeared in far greater numbers than most restaurants (and not just the usual steak and vegies). They had made a note of there being a coeliac diner next to our booking, so the waiter who greeted us made a point of establishing who the coeliac in our party was and explaining the menu to him. He said the chef would also be happy to accommodate any requests for alterations to gluten dishes where possiblle. We had a humungous meaty pizza that was equally big on flavour (containing gluten), a slightly overcooked but still tasty steak (gluten-free) and veal topped with prawns and a napolitana sauce. Service was swift and friendly and I would recommend Vagabondo to any coeliacs looking for a family night out.
