Cafe Trevi is a perennial late night favourite for Carlton locals and drinkers afflicted with sudden, gripping hunger. There are 26 woodfired pizzas and four different calzones on the menu, rounded out by another 19 pasta and risotto dishes. The veal parmigiana is one of the best in town, the veal concealed beneath a blanket of melted mozzarella and napoletana sauce. In one broad window of the double-fronted shop is a collection of rich cakes; while in the opposite window is the Cafe Trevi fountain, a tiled, stuccoed water feature. Lured within, customers can watch moustachioed Italians flip pizza bases, while behind a long counter others rack up countless cups of espressos. Televisions hang inelegantly from the ceiling amid Ferrari flags and AFL memorabilia, all of which add to the colloquial warmth of the place. A shortish wine list nevertheless has good examples of all the essentials. Outside, there are overhead heaters, young Italian waitresses and a continual flux of beautiful people walking by the score of pavement tables.

Best Spaghetti Meatballs
My husband and i come here almost every week. Each time i tell myself to order something different and i never do because the Spaghetti meatballs are the best i have ever had.
The atmosphere is nothing exciting yet staff are always smiling and making sure everything is ok.
What lacks in the atmospher of the place makes up for it in the pasta. I would eat there every day if i could!

They're kidding, aren't they?
Two of us visited Trevi for lunch today. The food was OK, in fact the pizza bases were excellent. We go to pay the account and asked the young lady to halve it....no, no, no! We don't split bills here was the indignant cry! Well, I suggested that as only two of us it shouldn't be difficult.......I fell on deaf ears and was given plenty of attitude. I confess to being so peeved at the time the notion of asking for change escaped me.. However, not to be out done I suggested to the princess with attitude that she brushes up on her arithmetic......this resulted in my friend (who happens to be a Barrister) and I being confronted by a fellow (presumably the owner) who proceeded to lecture us on the house policy of not splitting bills. We were on the footpath by this time so I don't imagine he was doing his business any favours. Being no stranger to the hospitality industry myself I'd caution the vigorous implementation of the "no splitting bills" rule as it has no legal standing at all. A diner enters into an individual contract with a hospitality establishment to order food and beverage for individual consumption and cannot be denied the opportunity to pay as an individual. No problem, we will not return and further more will spread the word far and wide........

Can't believe they can get away with it!
A restaurant/cafe that can't even cook chips! You feedback to the waitress that the chips are undercooked and soggy and nothing is done about it. So you give your feedback to a waiter on your way out that its disappointing that they were unable to properly cook chips in a meat and chip dish worth $22.50. The waiter asked if I knew how to cook - which I answered yes - I was then told by the waiter not so politely to go home and cook it myself. I hope they don't treat all there customers like that! Very disappointing! They obviously do well from those that walk in off the street as we did. I definitely won't make the same mistake twice!

wont go back
I ordered eggs florentine. muffins were untoasted and at least 3 days old mushrooms on the side - raw thinly sliced bacon on the side - looked as thou it had been poached. horrible food! service was average / staff wanted to take my cup of coffee before I had finished it, this happened at least 3 times before i was done.

Lacking
They were unable to add extra toppings on request to a pizza, which I found quite strange. If you are making my pizza for me now and I'm willing to pay for extra prosciutto, why can you not just throw it on? Otherwise food was ok, decent pizza but nothing to rave about.
Wait staff seemed very inexperinced. And they swooped on our table as soon as I put down my knife and fork, I was contemplating finishing off the last slice of pizza but too late he had thrown my napkin on it already.

Food was awful!!
Went to this place for lunch once as we happened to be at Lygon and peckish. What a mistake.
I ordered the prawn pasta. This dish was hardly paletable. I am sure it was just spaghetti cooked in milk, with prawns. There was no other discernible flavour that I could recognise in this dish. My partner ordered the salad, which was equally bad.
Would not bother with this place again.

My view
I ate at Cafe Trevi for the first time on 12.01.08. The food was great, we got what we ordered and the price was ok too. Service was friendly and fairly prompt considering that the place was fairly full. I was there again the following day for lunch and was so impressed I took others there the following week. Food and service was good each time and if anything the service was even more friendly.

Bad service
A lunch time farewell for a work colleague was ruined, because of bad service. Really sad because the food was quite good. The waitress made a mistake with the coffees, however when we requested a new coffee we were asked to pay for it.

About our experience
We went there for an evening celebration. The food was good. The service on the night was good. However they charged us for a pizza which they made that was a mistake. 1. they made the mistake. 2. they charged us for it. 3. they refused to then refund the $15.00, despite the waiter remembering us the following week and the mistake!
