Sopra is a classy cafe that takes its inspiration from the fabulous adjoining Fratelli Fresh grocery store. This means not interfering much with the produce, but rather emphasising its natural flavours and showcasing the quality. Chef Andy Bunn should be, and has been, applauded for keeping it simple and resisting the temptation to fiddle unnecessarily. The fine food sadly often means a bit of a wait at this no-bookings eatery, but starving would-be diners can kick back at the Aperitivo Bar for a sanity-saving glass of wine and a few nibbles while they wait.

Gourmet Travller 2009 Australian Restaurant Guide - "Surrender the convenience of bookings at Sopra, and you are rewarded with lively, very keenly priced Italianate dining amid the shelves of the light-strewn first floor of Fratelli Fresh."
Gourmet Traveller Feature Review - "Cafe Sopra, at Waterloo's Fratelli Fresh, has quietly but surely become a Sydney dining institution, and the new Potts Point branch continues the tradition. "

Bargain tasty Italian food
Small but very tasty portions of "modern/rustic" Italian food.
Shared the antipasto plate, linguine, green salad and Eton mess between two and it was just enough for lunch. With wine the bill came to less than $80! Result!
Service was quick but did have to wait 5-10 mins for a table, nothing really and reading the huge menu blackboard and browsing the Fratelli Fresh shop kept us occupied.

Excellent lunch at Cafe Sopra
Went to Sopra today for lunch with a girlfriend. The floor was packed, so we opted to sit at the bar, which gave us a good view into the kitchen (always something I enjoy). Shared an antipasto plate (arancini ball, roast pumpkin salad, grilled asparagus and sauteed mushrooms) and smoked trout & potato salad. Both were divine, flavours beautifully balanced. Our buttermilk pudding with summer berries turned out to be a minor disappointment - a fairly insipid panna cotta was what actually came out. Still, after such a delish main we weren't too fussed.
With great service, great prices and a good list of wines by the glass, Sopra is a winner. For an improved 'atmosphere' experience wait for a table as the elbows at the bar can get a little bit close.
