Cafe Saffron

Not the flashest of eateries, but the excellent food more than makes up for that! The menu is predominantly North Indian, with the velvety and balanced kormas the stand-out dishes. Check out the incredible murgh chabahar (chicken cooked and served in a coconut shell) at Cafe Saffron. Chef Vijay Negi serves up popular Indian dishes to a soundtrack of sitars: try the meatballs studded with sunflower seeds or the great lassis (yoghurt drinks).

Great food, great price
Lovely local Indian. Quick and friendly service. A very pleasant evening out - the tandoori prawns were great and mughli gravy is delish!

I'll be back!
Food was great, very tasty and lots of it! Was in a large group which was no problem for them, food was out in a timely manner and all together. Friendly staff; they were also very accomodating of a baby in a pram. Have only been here once, but will definitely be back for more!

What a feast
I'm a Malaysian Indian on a working trip to Melbourne, and was taken here by a local friend. I've eaten Indian cuisine in UK, US, India, Malaysia and Singapore and must say that this was one of the best north Indian meals I've had in a long time. The curries and paste were all freshly made on the premises. The tandoori lamb cutlet was succulent and juicy. The naan, however, was a little cold by the time it reached us but still crispy and delicious. You can also request for the curries to be extra spicy if it suits your palate, which I did for the veggie vindaloo and certainly paid the price for it. Simply great! The owner, Vijay, was always at hand and extremely attentive and friendly as was the rest of the staff. A superb dining experience. Will definitely be heading back there on my next trip to Melbourne.
