Cafe Najla

Lebanese and Moroccan dishes dominate the menu at Cafe Nejla - and it's proving very popular. Walk in past the rows of hookahs in the window to Cafe Nejla. Decked out with wicker chairs and a red-painted ceiling, the restaurant is usually busy with diners after tasty, aromatic dishes. Specials are usually pretty darn good and could include zucchini stuffed with lamb mince. Desserts include a delicious apple strudel and a moist syrup cake.

Cafe Najla - overrated!
After seeing Najla on Food Safari we were very excited to be trying it out. We love Middle Eastern Food, so were very keen. We were booked in at 7pm, & were seated straight away. First disappointment - no atmopshere, by way of music - which could barely be heard the entire evening (we left at 10pm). It must have been the waitresses 1st night as she really wasn't sure about the menu, how to pour wine or carry plates. Whilst tasty, the portion size compared with price was way out of sync. The mains were priced in the vicinity of $25, and were quite sparse on what was on the plate. The baklava dessert was priced at approx $9 - way way overpriced for the tiny morsel of what was served. This one won't be on my recommended list!

Not to our taste
Saw it on SBS food safari and was interested. We aren't Middle Eastern but felt that the food was very Aussie-centric. Like your typical suburban Thai which focuses on the fruity sweet aspects of the cuisine. Our student waiter didn't know what baba ganoush was when we asked why we didn't get it. We'd rather pay for something more honest to the region and honestly priced. Unfortunately there isn't enough of that around.

always fabulous
I have been coming to Cafe Najla for years now and am always so impressed with what this restaurant has to offer. On this occasion though I was delighted to chat to some other customers who were having their first Cafe Najla experience and were totally blown away...

I'm SO proud to spread the word... VISIT CAFE NAJLA!

WOW! What a surprise!
A fantastic mix of Middle Eastern delights, Cafe Najla sure did impress! Being of Middle Eastern background, I was pleasantly surprised by the not so traditional preparation and ingredients in the dishes. I highly recommend the fatoush, which contained strawberries, grapes and pomegranates! Not so traditional but it worked so well and make the salad really refreshing. The serving size was just right and well priced. The service was fast and friendly. Some traditional music would have made it even more of an experience, but I am definitely looking forward to my next visit.

Yummy food in slightly exotic, very warm atmosphere
I have been for dinner quite a few times. The salad with the strawberries and grapes is a must. Couscous - wonderful as are the claypot dishes. Something on the menu to please most - food, is fresh and well-presented. Quick, friendly service. Happily recommended.
