In a world of fast food and predictable cafe menus, it's refreshing as hell to find that Cafe Ish, the famed Albion Street east-meets-west coffee house, has branched out to a second location on Campbell Street (where Saks Espresso & Wine once was). This sister eatery is just as pretty as her sibling, narrowly tucked into a trendy little corner spot, with a couple of outside seats for smokers and sun-soakers. While its predecessor focuses on coffees and light bites, this Cafe Ish takes the mod-Oz cafe-meets-Japanese izakaya (or sake tavern) to a new level, offering a mixture of brekkie and lunch staples alongside small and large tapas bites, all incorporating Aussie bush ingredients (no kidding). At breakfast time the soft shell crab omelette is a sure bet, though you may be more tempted by the bunya pancakes, named after the native Australian nut used in this distinct dish. By lunch, it's wagyu burger time (be sure to take your time, this one's packed with goodies); dinnertime calls for Japanese tapas and plenty of sake and beer to complete a rather unique picture.
