I miss essen
This place is fantastic. For years i have been coming here at least once a week, often every day. I come for the fabulous coffee, tea, food and atmosphere. Right now i am in the USA and have major cafe essen withdrawals. I miss it so much, and sometimes all i want is to sit at essen with my friends and share a pot of soy infused chai!
I love this place and its chilled out vibe.
the Mediterranean eggs, tomato bruschetta and the chai is really great.

What a great place to be
One of my favourite cafes in Canberra, good value for money, fast, efficient service (especially when you most need it, just before the film starts at the Dendy's!), and good food. I recommend their Greek omelette.

It's only getting better
While I am not a dedicated regular of Cafe Essen, I was surprised at how friendly the staff were and how willing they were to accomodate my (admittedly a little fussy) tastes.

The food was delivered promptly, tasted fresh and looked superb even though the cafe was packed.

I will definitely be returning to Cafe Essen in the very near future.

Great atmosphere, great food
A self-confessed coffee addict, I have found that Cafe Essen consistently provides excellent coffee, tailored to suit the customers needs. Their coffee is always hot, tasty and by far the best I've had in Canberra.

The atmosphere changes from warm and cosy inside to the more bustling outdoor seating. However, the popular nature of this cafe can mean that serivice can be a little slow, and I have had difficulties attracting waiters attention.

Although I do not eat here as regularly, I have always found Essen's dishes - breakfast, lunch and dinner - to be tasty and filling.

Joy at a lucky find
Cafe Essen, though hardly the best brewer of tea within the Canberra region, is one of the few cafe/restaurants within reach of Northside residents that carries more than just a collection of Twinings tea-bags. The variety of coffee available is also incredibly good, as is customer service; although sometimes things will take their time getting to you, the staff are friendly and adaptable to individual needs.

Vegetarian food is, on occasion, better than the carnivore's alternative on the menu, and I visit Essen at least once a week for their vegetarian nachos.
