Take a summer holiday indoors and soak up some sunny service and azure blue decor at this cafe, which really is by the beach. The colossal breakfast options include seven types of pancakes (including buttered nuts - local macadamias smothered in butterscotch sauce) and a plethora of other cooked breakfasts.
The cafe stays open all day to feed hungry tourists and ravenous surfers, before becoming a charming bistro as night falls. The dinner menu includes Italian, Thai, Chinese and modern Australian cuisine, with an emphasis on seafood; macadamia-encrusted local prawns, on raisin and mint rice with mango sauce and cucumber yoghurt is a specialty.

Divine family dinner out in Caloundra's best location!!
Our family dined at Cafe by the Beach on a busy Saturday evening. We got in just before the rush and were seated in the beautiful outside dining area. Our waitress was fantastic, she looked after not only my husband and I but gave special attention to our young children (who often don't dine out with us because of the hassle). They were provided with children's menus and colouring in to keep them happily occupied while my husband and I enjoyed a glass of wine while perusing the menu. My husband had the moroccan spiced lamb cutlets which were divine (I tried some of his they looked so good!) and I had the fish of the day, a suggestion from the waitress, which was grilled atlantic salmon. The fish was to die for it literally melted in my mouth and the kids enjoyed their mini kids pizza and spaghetti. There was nothing left on our plates! Feeling rather full we decided to share a dessert together, the evening special was a baked blueberry cheesecake with a honeycomb affogato. It was delicious and the kids enjoyed ice cream which came with their meals! Overall we had a fantastic night, we loved the friendly and accommodating atmosphere, everyone seemed to be having a great evening, and we are still raving about the food. We will definitely be back when we next visit Caloundra to try out the tapas, it looked sooo good!
