Cafe 639

In Rathdowne Village you can be spoiled for choice when eating out. At number 639 you'll find a family-friendly menu in residence - and there's room for bambinos to boot. A full breakfast sees poached, scrambled or fried free-range eggs make friends with a supporting cast of bacon, tomato, hash brown, sausage and mushrooms. Those who venture inside the red-trimmed workers cottage will find polished concrete floors and comfort food that canvasses most carbohydrates, from pasta specials with chicken and avocado to risottos and toasted focaccia with a deli-boast of toppings. A glass case shows off sweets by the slice, and those with energy to burn will love that the local park is just a hop skip and a jump away.

If you don't mind incompetent waiting staff, and by incompetent I mean unable to carry plates safely without dropping them, take orders correctly, or clean up their mess without leaving patrons to do it themselves, terrible coffee - overdrawn, bitter and watery - and long waiting times, then this place is probably for you.

Ok, to be fair, it wasn't ALL bad, the big breakfast came with a generous side of bacon, and the poached eggs were almost perfectly cooked but this seemed to be the pick of the brunch menu. The schnitzel was tres ordinaire and the gratin-esque omelette wasn't much better.
