A couple of years ago, Rod and Margo Dryland decided they needed a change. So they gave up their respective jobs, deciding instead to turn a century-old cottage into a cute and cool espresso bar. And it seems they made the right decision. Cafe 58 is a busy little cottage. Some pop in for a coffee and snack, while others like to hang around and order a relaxing brekkie, lunch or dinner. Either way, the staff will make you feel more than welcome. The modern Australian menu is as diverse as the people crowding the tables, creating a warm and interesting cafe experience.

Long time customer never returning
We have been to brekky at Cafe 58 about 3 out of 4 Sundays per month and used to enjoy the food and service. Over the past few visits, things have gone downhill. Brekky yesterday was awful. We were greeted by a young waitress who took our order. As I have done many times before, I requested a single egg on toast (I am in training so have strict dietry requirements). She reduley said we don't do that and I explained my reason and that I had had this many times before. She went away and came back to tell me "this is your last time". Some basic manners would be great perhaps??
She was very rude for the rest of the service. The food was average and the coffee (latte) was awful.
If you're looking for a good meal pick another cafe - there are a heap of great cafes nearby. Maybe Cafe 58 has new owners? It has certainly gone downhill and we won't be returning there again.

Great Food & Service
We have dined at Cafe 58 almost from the day it opened. Manager and her staff have always made us feel welcome and are friendly and helpful. We've had some great meals here and chef Martyn and his kitchen staff show how award winning Martyn's overseas experience shows through in his creations. Great food! The alfresco area is a treat on a warm night too, and live music is often heard there during the meal. Great for the digestion! My wife and I love the place!

Long wait for very Fishy dinner
We booked for dinner last Wednesday 7 Sept and waited over an hour for the main course we ordered. The waiter was very nice, but the restaurant definitely lacked enough kitchen staff. After the very long wait for our food the Barramundi which was displayed on the menu as Fish of the Day did not taste fresh and had a strong unpalatable fishy flavour so most of it was left uneaten. My partner agreed that fish tasting so strong was likely to be old and/or frozen then thawed. The side salad was uninspiring. The Garlic Prawns were fine but served with a large quantity of thick white bread which was unwanted as we had filled in time waiting for our main course with garlic bread. I will not be in a hurry to go back.

A Fabulous Surprise!
My partner and I were recommended by friends to visit Cafe 58 Espresso Bar and what a lovely surprise! Since our first visit we've become frequent diners at Cafe 58 and last year booked a function in their Alfesco Garden. We invited 40 guests and everyone commented on the friendliness of the staff and the excellent and abundant supply of tasty delights. After for than 12 dinner bookings we've always found the staff to be friendly, courteous and efficient and have enjoyed the extensive and well priced menu. Their Lamb Shanks and Agean Prawns are the best we've ever tasted and keep us coming back for more. We've found Cafe 58's food to be of the highest quality and always fresh. If you're looking for a wonderful dining experience that won't break the bank then Cafe 58 is a must visit.

Disappointing experience
This was our second visit to this cafe. It was nearly full but we managed to get a table. My husband had the soup of the day to start, Leek, potato and carrot which was good. Unfortuantley the mains were not. Chicken Parmigiana described as using only the finest ingredients, I dont think so! What came up was a huge hunk of chicken far too thick in stodgy dark brown breadcrumbs absultely smothered in gloopy cheese which I suspect was your run of the mill tasty cheese. Certainly not parmesan, it looked unappetising and it was, very sad indeed, how can such a classic simple dish turn out this bad. My husband had the sizzling garlic prawns, a lack lustre dish of poor quality prawns probably frozen swimming in galicy oil or should I say drowning! The cafe was chilly most diners still had their coats on, one cusotmer even put her hat back on to keep warm. All in all not a happy dining experience I wont be going again, which is a shame as I live just around the corner.

what a roast
I heard of a little cafe from a friend just off Carrinton Rd and went there for dinner, all I can say is ROAST NITE! It was unbelievable! Roast beef and gravy with yorkshire pudding(a first for me and a must for all)with a heap of roast veggies on the side it was better than my nans, lovely service very prompt and still very nice, and the cafe it self was very homely but modern with a huge outdoor area.
I will be coming back and might bring a bottle of wine with me next time.

Best meal I've had in a long time!!
My wife and I arrived and joined our friends in a beautiful walled courtyard complete with a delightful water wall and subdued lighting. We were immediately seated, offered refreshments and our B.Y.O. wines were back on the table very quickly. The time the staff took to attend to us was extraordinary. The food was more "fine dining" than "cafe". We had a delightful evening with our friends and we'll be returning as often as time permits. Keep up the great work and the sumptuous food.

I have never been treated so shabbily whilst dining out in my life.
Firstly the ghastly woman that served us should be kept out of the service area. She was rude, abrupt and seemingly in a foul mood, which she took out on us as diners!
Firstly the venue - the front door is really really heavy and you break yourself trying to enter or leave the place, the acoustics in the restaurant gave the impression that you were in a bar or nightclub as you had to shout over the other diners to hear conversation and the toilet was disgusting.
The service was lacklustre and the woman who stomped her way around the customers (spilling a glass of red wine down one patron) was a complete turn off - she nearly knocked me flying as I walked back to my table after using the toilet facilities. 1. We were not offered a bottle of water (which every other table had by the way) and when I asked for one the waiter went out to the food prep area and yes you guessed it we never received our bottle of water. 2. The service of our BYO alcoholic drinks was non-existent and we had to ask for our bottles and they were unaware of what we brought. 3. That woman came to our table as we were enjoying wine n conversation before ordering and asked rudely if we had a booking and we replied yes - she uttered something further but I had turned away in disgust at the treatment we received - she then stomped away.
Food - The menu and later on the food we ordered from the menu was bland and unimaginative. I had a Chicken Caesar that was touted on the menu to be for the 'Chicken Caesar Connoisseur' yer right - sure - ok - where were the anchovies? and when I asked the waiter if they had some he once again scooted out to the food prep area and yes you guessed it there was no reply to my question.
I am disgusted at the service and treatment received at this restaurant.

Perth's best kept secret!
Wow! My friends had raved about this quaint little cafe right in the 'burbs for ages and I was perplexed as to how it could be so popular? I booked for Valentine's Day a good 2 weeks before the actual date and was told there alfresco courtyard was already fully booked, which was disapointing as it had amazing sounding live music. I was also informed it was a set menu. At $50 per head I was amazed that such a little cafe was crammed full (at least 100pax) and was pumping out such a high standard of food! With the best garlic prawns I've ever had in Perth as an entree and a lamb, pork or chicken dish for mains (I chose the grilled pork fillet with fresh Chinese vegetables, sesame coated potatoes and a lime chilli and ginger dressing). Dessert was as equally amazing with a choice of either chocolate mousse-filled hearts with homemade icecream or a Cointreau and summmer fruit salad. I had a peek at the a la carte menu and it looked impressive! The staff were friendly and attentive, running around busily but still had everything under control. My partner and I returned for a Sunday brekkie and although we had to wait 20 mins for a table of 4 (we should have booked, even for brekkie) I swear it was worth the wait! Their West Aussie scrambled eggs with salmon, spinach and double cream were to die for! I cannot rave about this place enough!
