Sure, the Yarra is a bit browner and it doesn't lead to Cyprus, but the decor inside is more than enough to give the WTC Wharf's latest venue enough cred for its name. There's been serious thought - and dollars - put into the Middle Eastern fit-out; it's chic and sexy, with almost enough faux and opulent artefacts to distract you from the melange of chandeliers and the luxuriant bar. With plenty of outdoor seating, plush banquettes and padded cubes inside, and more traditional table layouts further in, indecisive diners will find seating their first dilemma.
Making a choice from the menu will be simpler thanks to the helpful decoding of terms: batata harra (sauteed cubed potato with lemon juice, olive oil, coriander and garlic) is to Lebanon what pommes frites are to Belgium - they're listed as a mezat, but you may not want to share. Lebanese food is not unhealthy per se and there are plenty of salads and share plates, but if you're more likely to order the baklava than the baba ghanoush or the falafel and not the fattoush, twice-weekly visits to Byblos are unlikely to be endorsed by your GP. Thankfully there's a decent range of digestifs and cardio-friendly wines by the glass.
