Byblos Bar & Restaurant

At the cruise ship end of the Portside promenade, Byblos' location might be vaguely reminiscent of its Mediterranean namesake. Sure, the Brisbane water's a bit browner and it doesn't lead to Cyprus, but there's plenty of container ship action and few would feel let down by the view. There's been serious thought - and dollars - put into the Middle Eastern fit out; it's chic and sexy, with almost enough faux and opulent artefacts to distract you from the melange of chandeliers and the pink backlit bar. With high tables and stools outdoors, plush banquettes and padded cubes to the left and a more traditional table layout to the right, indecisive diners will find seating their first dilemma.

Making a choice from the menu will be simpler thanks to the helpful decoding of terms: batata harra (sauteed cubed potato with lemon juice, olive oil, coriander and garlic) is to Lebanon what pommes frites are to Belgium - they're listed as a mezat, but you may not want to share. Lebanese food is not unhealthy per se and there are plenty of salads and share plates, but if like me you're more likely to order the baklava than the baba ghanoush, the falafel not the fattoush, twice-weekly visits to Byblos are unlikely to be endorsed by your GP. Thankfully there's a decent range of digestifs and cardio-friendly wines by the glass.

Excellent banquet
My boyfriend and I recently visited Byblos for dinner. I had been wanting to try Byblos for a while and it certainly didn't disappoint. I loved the extensive cocktail menu.

We decided on a banquet which had SO much food we couldn't eat it all. The waitress was also quite helpful in explaining the dishes and reminding us to save room for the next courses. Will definitely go back.

Disappointing
We had been very excited about dining at Byblos, as their menu looks great and it came highly recommended from friends. The service from our first waitor was ok, if a little too laid back. The next waitor attempt at humour was quite rude and not at all professional. The food was very disappointing; poorly presented and very overpriced (most of the mains we had came with chips which were not on the menu?). The atmosphere was ok, mainly due to location, which goes someway to explain why the food is so expensive for what it is. We won't be returning.

Outstanding Service
This restaurant is an awesome place for a celebration. The food at Byblos is great with a range of dishes from conservative to desserts made of avocado mousse (has to be tried). The decor has a modern middle east/moroccan feel and is very appropriate.

But what makes this place stand out is the service, the staff are extremely helpful, friendly and talkative. The menu is rather large and a little daunting, so our group decided to just get a banquet and try a little but of everything when we told our waiter he informed us that the banquet was huge and way too much food and provided us with other options which was extremely helpful and when the food came out he was right, the Mezza plates are a good size.

The bar is awesome to say the least with a large range of drinks, just look at there menu on their website.

This place is a wonderful place for a party or celebrations with the mood very upbeat and food designed to be shared. Outstanding service.

Fabulous
Had dinner with a friend here last night. Fantastic service, very friendly, informative and fast. Had the mixed platter for 2, a delicious selection of Lebanese tapas, dips & bread. Great value. And coffees were spot on. Decor is gorgeous and atmosphere is classy yet funky and relaxed. Huge, so great for groups dining or just having drinks in the lounge.

What a night
Everyone had been talking about Byblos and now I know why. This place was amazing, first time in a long time that I have been to a venue where the food, drinks and service have been amazing. The menu is great, we grazed our way through the evening with delicious tapas-style Lebanese specialties while drinking some of the best cocktails I have had in Brisbane (the bartenders really know their stuff here). I will definitely be back.
