Primarily known as a purveyor of fresh and fragrant breads, mouth-watering chocolates, specialty cakes and hot savoury pastries, this super-friendly Mawson patisserie is as popular as ever. Those who are madly in love with Bruno's sausage rolls and pasties need not worry- they're still here. Likewise, the fresh breads and cases full of dozens of varieties of chocolates, with half of the shop devoted to these tried-and-tested goodies.

best chocolates in Australia
We have been buying Bruno's truffles since the 1980s. As conniseurs of chocolate, Brunos remain our favourite chocolates- worldwide. Better than Lindt, Godiva, Haighs,...
He is meticulous with the quality and care of his truffles. They are sublime. His actual shop is a let-down, in an unappealing area, in a space too large for the shop - little atmosphere. He should never have moved from the original site in Narrabundah.
However, the trek to Mawson is worth it for the truffles alone. Our faves are macadamia, banana, hazelnut,...but they are all good!
Please keep making chocolates Bruno! An online delivery service would be great too. We live in Melbourne now so rarely get there.

Brilliant range, Friendly Service, Homely
Bruno's Truffels offers a fantastic range of daily baked sourdough breads, handmade truffels and exquisite cakes. Although I found they were no longer serving full meals, the pastries, rolls, quiches and sausage rolls have all been exemplary.
The staff were, while occasionally slow to serve, extremely friendly, offering personal favourites and never refusing a request for out of the ordinary orders. A young but talented Barista mans the espresso machine serving the most heart melting hot chocolates, smooth espressos and irresistible teas.
Gelato was, I discovered, handmade, with many sweet (some, appropriately, sour) mouth watering classic flavours. The cakes and pastries are all made to perfection, and well worth their sometimes higher-than-normal cost.
Tables, floors and surfaces were all clean and well attended to.
Bruno's truffles is a homely bakery and cafe with a record of extremely high quality and a fantastic range with friendly, open staff.

Over priced truffles, poor service and basic food
Bruno's Truffle seems to survive on a small and loyal following. Having attempted to sample their many offerings of pastries, gelatos and truffles, I have been less than impressed. The Gelato (Mango flavour) was simply disgusting. Stale and slightly sour rather than sweet and refreshing. With regards to pastries, their offerings are generally good. But to be honest, no better than many local bakeries or chains such as Michelle's and Gloria Jeans. Finally, the truffles, which are really just some exquisite chocolates, handmade by Bruno. Very expensive. I doubt they will disappoint, but they are certainly a luxury item.
Service is generally slow with staff uninterested and inattentive. They need to be coaxed into actually serving you. Many people stand for quite sometime at the counter before actually being served, even when the staff are not doing anything else.
Overall, Bruno's is a glorified local bakery. He has some unique offerings. But the cold atmosphere, uncomfortable chair inside and terrible gelato, coupled with substandard service does little to attract me. If you enjoy the food from your local bakery or Gloria Jeans/Starbucks, it is unlikely you will get any better at Bruno's. Give them a go though, it's a matter of personal opinion.
