Another franchised coffee shop? Not here! While the CBD floods with big brand cafes, the inner suburbs are developing their own neighbourhood coffee culture. The Brown Dog Cafe has a funky and rustic feel. The shopfront is unassuming, but the bench seats and vinyl bring back memories of the days when life was much simpler. The burgers are enormous and the beef version is actually filled with a homemade mince pattie. For your best chance of finishing these well-portioned and rustic dishes, set your tastebuds to stun and starve yourself before ordering. A compact boutique wine list is a welcome feature for washing away the remnants of your feast. Coffee is good, with a number of cakes, biscuits and slices for those just wanting a quick visit. Wanting a rewarding meal? Make friends with your local Brown Dog.

How disappointing!
What a let down! Had heard a lot about this place, and dropped in to grab a quick brekky while going over some notes for uni assignment. It was really busy, but I was told if I waited for 5-10 minutes a table would be made available. I was happy to wait, but left after 20 minutes went by and noticing that other people coming in after me got a table. Won't be going back. Appreciate that a loan person won't necessarily get priority, but to be treated like I don't matter is not appropriate - I don't always eat alone!

Go There all the Time
I am SOOO fortunate to work just down the road from Brown Dog and I am always proud to take people there or use it as an escape from the office!
I have been going about once a fortnight-ish since it opened and I am in love with their dips platter - the freshness of it all is so appealing and their home-made dukkah is sublime (sticky balsamic and light olive oil - yum).
Their burgers are creative, but not in the sense that they cross any lines that you wouldn't want them to by being 'too different'. Flavours are always balanced and they put genuine effort into all aspects of the food; I am always glad to see their side salads and their chips are just perfect for some reason.
Staff are lovely and always obliging and intelligent regarding the food.

Lazy sunday breakfast
A truly enjoyable visit was had by myself and a couple of girlfriends at this suberb cafe called the Brown Dog. Why the name? The owners have a gorgeous chocolate labrador. At last a real cafe! These guys are serious about what they do. Coffee, food, service, music, decor. t was like being in a funky Melbourne cafe. I will be back, this time with my fella, for a lazy Sunday brunch. They serve brekky till 2.30!!! Great for hangovers.

Mother's Day Lunch
Was one of only a few places not doing a set menu for Mother's Day. Food was fantastic, all four of us raved about our meals. The service was personal and friendly, nothing was too much of problem. The place was full of families doing the 'casual' Mother's Day meal. Will be going back there again and bringing my friends.

On the drive by, or just cruising........
Popped in while we were house-hunting on a Saturday and beginning to fade. Excellent coffee, fab squid and just the right amount of green on the plate. Had to have one of Nana's jam squares to finish. A stunning gem for Goodwood!!!
