Restaurant Information
The Brisbane
The Brisbane Hotel opened in December 2004, and quickly became the 'it' place, for foodies and barflies alike. The restaurant menu is extremely varied, dubbed by chef Anthony Schell as 'Australian classics with a modern interpretation,' made only with WA ingredients. Some of these dishes include succulent Moroccan spiced lamb, eggplant and tomato pizza; his famous prawn linguine; and a traditional (and scrumptious) rhubarb and apple crumble with vanilla ice cream. If these culinary delights aren't enough on their own, they can be enjoyed whilst bathing in the sun of the beer garden during summer, or tucked - all warm and cosy - in the subtly lit restaurant in winter, complete with blazing fire and upbeat background music.

The Brisbane
Consistency is what the Brisbane is all about. The Chicken Cesar salad I had today (Monday 22nd March), was exactly the same as the Chicken Cesar salad I had a year ago. Menu hasn't changed all that much in that time either which is OK, as they have something for pretty much everyone. A couple of Fish dishes, namely Salmon and Barramundi, 300 Gram Scotch Fillet, Linguine etc. As well as a selection of Pizza's. Food is above average but is missing the wow factor, which is something all pub type food is missing. Always nice to chill out at The Brisbane. It has been accused of being a tad too pretentious at times, but a quiet lunch with a couple of friends is not one of those times. Pete Murray coming out of the all weather speakers is a good choice of background music and conversation is easily maintained. Initially only one waitress served patrons at around 1:40pm, but she was friendly, efficient and we didn't have to wait long to order food and drinks. Overall it's a great place for lunch but it gets way busier on Friday and Saturday nights when the atmosphere is lost, communication becomes hard and the wait for drinks increases ten fold. On the whole a good place for a relaxed lunch. Good service and reasonable prices.

The bar on a Saturday night does not make a good restaurant!
Due to the current popularity of The Brisbane as a trendy watering hole, I would definitely give it a miss as a restaurant. Mid-week may be fine, but Saturday night it was a nightmare!
We waited ages for our table, which was in the beer garden. We were surrounded on all sides by standing drinkers, and also smokers! (I thought food service areas were definitely no smoking zones in Perth now!)
The poor wait staff had to fight their way through crowds of people from the kitchen, through the bar and down crowded steps into the beer garden. They did the best they could under the circumstances. It was so dark we could not see the food, and so loud we could talk only to the person next to us, and that was at the level of shouting. I went home with a sore throat!Food was OK. Scotch fillets were cooked as ordered, but not great cuts of meat. Pad thai with pork belly salad was thoroughly enjoyed by one diner, but disliked by another (pork belly pronounced "slimy"). I tasted it and felt the thai flavours were authenic but very strong on the dried shrimp. Lamb was "OK, but nothing special". The spanish doughnuts were fun, and shared with much laughter by the table.
I have eaten here before and had better experiences.
On a Saturday night, The Brisbane is a funky, loud and busy bar, NOT a restaurant- don't expect one.
