Owned by the family behind Il Tratto Ra Ro in Paddington, this inner-west venture is as Italian as the Di Donato family themselves. The attached pizzeria offers a more casual dining option, while the ristorante serves up Italian favourites with plenty of seafood and hearty tomato-based dishes, all presented with ample portions of Italian-style hospitality. The antipasto platter is a generous selection of seafood (whitebait, octopus and oysters, to name a few) and marinated vegetables. After grazing happily on this sizeable plate, a main course may seem out of the question, but secondi such as the garlic and chilli prawn hotpot or the baked lamb with potatoes and rosemary are worth the effort. Those stretchy-sided few who make it to dessert with room to spare are rewarded with Mamma Di Donato's own cannoli or tiramisu.
