In a quiet residential block of Carlton North, the Brandon Hotel seems like a hidden relic of the past, from a time when pub food was more than just parma and fries. With an open fire and a vibe that is homely and unpretentious, the Brandon blends traditional bar food with contemporary cuisine, always instilled with fresh produce. The menu changes seasonally, so you may find anything from pan-fried scallops to eye fillet steak on hand.

Couldn't Agree More
On the back of a positively glowing review for the Brandon in Epicure the other week we thought we'd give it a try - and we loved it. Small enough to be friendly, but not cramped, big enough to offer a broad and imaginative menu together with a fabulous wine list that didn't insist on deep pockets. Service was attentive and the food a delight - my aged sirloin was the equal to any of the upper-end specialist steak houses around. One other thing, the furniture was comfortable - really comfortable. I hate these uber-modern restaurants with chairs so modern they seem better suited to people of a future age. But that's not my point - the point of me taking the time to write this is in the hope that just one person reads it and eats at the Brandon - then I have done my good deed for the day. Enjoy!
