Bouzy Rouge

Bouzy Rouge is the recent addition to Jose D'Olivera's long list of dodgy pubs that have been reinvented into chic eateries. The venue has all the regular fare, but with a smack of Spanish and French flavour. The baked camembert and whitebait is a good start - for the taste buds, though - not the hips. For the mains you can't go past the duck confit, although the soft shell crab is also a worthy adversary. The ambience is relaxed yet upmarket, ideal for mooching away a lazy Sunday afternoon.

We loved it!
The occasion was my parents coming to visit for the weekend and as I am new in town myself, didn't really know where to go, can't remember exactly how I found this place, but one of the things I liked about it was that the exterior of the building is unassuming so it made the walk-in all that more exciting.

Love the decor...some bold pieces, very clever use of items, and interesting because it was more than tables and chairs in a room.

Very lively atmosphere, excellent service. Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu which always scores big for me (after a shaky start where we had to prompt to get our orders taken, but that was the only thing). The rest of the evening we received the most polite, non-intrusive service.

We were seated in the (covered) courtyard and the only improvement I would suggest is to make it a little lighter - it was difficult to read menus.

Then came the food, quite promptly, hardly any wait-time once orders were taken, and it was obvious that they take pride in what they serve in terms of quality. We had the Olives, prawns, zucchini flowers and Portuguese chorico for entree, which set the tone for the rest of the meal....and they did not disappoint. Portion sizes are very generous, I was glad Mum suggested sharing mains because there was no way I would have finished. We had 3 courses (shared tapas entrees), and left the dinner table very very full and happy!

All up, it was a great evening, and price-wise I found it very reasonable esp. given that we also had a couple of jugs of sangria and 2 bottles of wine.
