Fantastic Experience
From the second we walked in the door our experience at Bottega was fantastic. We were immeditately greeted by warm attentive service staff and from there it continued to get better and better. There was nothing we didn't like about this restaurant and we dine out frequently in pursuit of the best experience. So far for me this is at the top of my list. I started with the scallops and then moved on to the duck which was nothing short of spectacular as was the lamb experienced by my partner. Try the coffee martini that the staff had recently invented and like us you might get a surprise chocolate sweet to go with it. Speaking of Chocolate the fondant was perfect and the lemon semi fredo superb. Wait staff were prompt and efficient without being intrusive - glass quickly filled as getting close to empty but at the same time we didn't feel that we were being rushed. Ample choices on the wine list and reasonably priced. Wait time between courses was just right. The atmosphere was great - busy but private (we had a booth). Dim lights created an intimate atmosphere but the chatter around also made it feel like a comfortable place to be. I can't rave enough about this place. Do yourself a favour and give it a try for dinner - you won't be disappointed

"Express Lunch" took 2 hours for main to arrive!
Food was OK, and had a great time with a friend over a lingering Friday lunch -- but it took over TWO HOURS for my main course to arrive! I can only imagine how long the "Stopping at all stations" lunch would take. Good thing I wasn't in a rush.

Delicious
We stumbled across this restaurant on a quiet Friday night. What a nice surprise, the food was extraordinary and the experience as a whole was delightful. When the food arrived I knew immediately I would be sad once it was all consumed. The lamb stuffed with sweet bread was superb and suggest you get there fast before they replace it on the menu. Places like Bottega are why Melbourne has a reputation for quality food and service.

Great food, average service
Food was great. Service could improve. Wait staff could be a bit more friendly. Highly recommended just for the food alone.

Wonderful!
Went here after walking around the city centre looking for a good restaurant. This was absolutely gorgeous! Good atmosphere, great furniture (mixture of modern with warm colours and wood). The wines and food were absolutely delicious, the staff was very professional. If you want to spend a bit more for a good dinner, this is the place to go! I'll definitly go there again!

I go here when I want to be spoilt!
I've been to Bottega several times now and every time I've come away feeling spoilt because I've had such a good time there. I've tasted delicious food and been waited on by staff who know just when to be there and when not to - true professionals.
The chocolate tart at Bottega is the best I have ever had. Clearly it's made with the best of ingredients. I'd go back for that alone! Another favourite is the scallops wrapped in proscuitto on parsnip puree. Divine!
The decor is modern, comfortable and very pleasant to look at. You've won me over Bottega!

Special dinner
We took our son to Bottega on a Saturday night for his 13th birthday, wanting to introduce him to a fine dining experience. The atmosphere was perfect, subtle lighting, fitting music and great comfortable seating with enough space to feel separate but still part of the crowd, which was buzzing on a Saturday night. The waiting staff were really attentive and were fantastic in advising my son (and us). After a glass of great prosecco we had a memorable meal, pan served gnocci, tender calamari and mains including a fantastic quail and my son rated his lamb highly. Desserts were similarly of a high quality. We left Bottega feeling glad he had this introduction and with a memory of a very special meal.

Rather disappointing
I had high hopes for this restaurant, but sadly it didn't come to my expectation. For example, the service: I felt like begging the waiters for more water, etc.

In terms of food, our entrees were nice (I had king fish sashimi). My main though was a disaster. The duck was really tough and chewy (overcooked!) although the skin was really crispy. I had canolli for dessert. Just average.

Disappointing to say the least
When dining in a one-hat restaurant in Melbourne, one expects to enjoy a pretty nice night out.

Unfortunately, that was not the case when we dined here one Saturday evening. From being left to sit in the darkened far corner of the restaurant, without menus or drinks for 5-10 minutes, to an interminable wait for our mains to arrive, it was a case of 'lost opportunity'.

Despite the bustling crowd and whizzing wait staff, service is not one of the strong points. Sadly the food - or lack thereof - matched the service; overcooked in some instances and far too small to be called 'mains' in others. Needless to say, a return visit is not on the cards anytime soon.
