Sitting next door to Surry Hills darling Bar Cleveland, this tiny hole-in-the-wall Brazilian-themed restaurant and cocktail bar offers revellers an entirely different experience to its neighbour.
The black and white walls and black-and-white chequered tiled counter bar are offset by the vast colour spectrum of liquor bottles standing in procession behind the bar, and candle-light adds to the overall intimate feel of the bar.
The menu is a selective list of
petiscos - Portuguese for "tasty foods". Start with some
sardinha (pan-seared sardines with roasted peppers and jalapeno for a refreshing bite, served on toast with fresh lime); other culinary delights include the
cordeiro assado (lamb cutlets with black-eyes beans) and
pastel (crispy turnovers filled with cheese and herbs or salt-cured beef).
The desserts are equally alluring, sticking to tradition with the
pudim de leite (Brazilian-style creme caramel) and featuring a rotating roster of house-made ice cream. But as mentioned this is a cocktail bar, and the drinks really are enough reason to warrant a visit. The South American flavours are prominent in the drink options, in which national favourites feature strongly, from Brazilian caipirinhas and batidas to Peruvian and Chilean pisco. The wine list is also entirely comprised of boutique South American drops.
